But somehow I feel better knowing that she is now only going to be:
- filthy
- rich

You too? I was laughing my butt off when I heard the news. It's nice to know that the money will go to somebody who can sign there name on the check. But still, that leaves 69 mil. I wonder if I'm going to get a NoK from his lawyer for a piece of that...

I'd say she probably wants the other 2 some billion, but that's just a guess. hopefully her popularity will die out as soon as everyone finds out she's 'poor'.

Also remember she is not exactly poor just on her own earnings. While it was daddy and grandpappy's name that gave her the opportunity she has a clothing/perfume/fashion line now that is making her some good coin. Additionally she is paid something like $90K for a personal appearance at trendy night clubs. She will not go hungry.

I agree with The Man. Even though she really doesn't DO anything, she does have a "career" of her own. She has made a lot of her own money and, at this point, I really don't think she is financially dependent on anyone. I am sure that a billion dollars is helpful, but I don't think she will starve. Because of being poor at least.

I did read that the foundation Mr. Hilton is donating his money to (started by his father) is like the 60th largest foundation in terms of holdings, BUT not in the top 100 in terms of money spent each year.

While I respect guys like this (Bill Gates, Warrent Buffet as well) what good does it do if the money is not USED?

Infrastructure in Africa, while not "sexy", would be one hell of a thing to invest in. Give the African's a chance to make a living and bring their country/continent forward and give many there a better life.

Part of the problem is just getting any aid donated from the port/air port out to the people.

True. Wherever there is poverty, misery, catastrophe, there is a cadre of professional disaster chasing, international aid groupie, development mercenary parasites ready to siphon off a bunch of it in salaries, late model rides, fancy computers and attractive secretaries.
