As well as collecting retro computer hardware/software, I also collect old Commodore 64 related books and manuals. One that I have been trying to find for the past 12 months or so is the following:
Title: Programming The Commodore 64
Author: Raeto West
Publisher: Compute! Publications
ISBN 10: 0874550815
ISBN 13: 9780874550818
Note that I already have the 1985 first edition, I'm NOT interested in that one. I want the 1987 revised edition.
If anyone here has this (unlikely) or knows the best place to look (likely) then please get in touch.
Though I'm willing to pay a fair price for it, I'm not interested in some of the outrageous prices being quoted for it, like those robbing basts' on Amazon Marketplace! |

Wow, I remember playing w/ the 64 and the 128 growing up. I've still got the 128 packaged up in the basement. One of these days I keep telling myself it will see the light of day once again. |

Very doubtful you could run Linux on it; it's an 8-bit machine, and the 6502 family was horrible to write multi-tasking software on due to it's fixed stack and "page-zero" addressing.
The Amiga was a 68000 based 16-bit machine. |

Lol - still have mine too - except I got the 16k "brick" ram expansion and "upgraded" from the cassette drive to a real 180k ssd 5.25 floppy - one serious computer! |

^^thud^^
Thanks for the info. Then the C64 is not really interesting for me.
Anyway, the next thing I'll run on Linux will be my old PDA. And then let's see if I can get the kids Nintendo DS run it... I've heard there's a project for that...
By the way, I have totally skipped C64 and Amiga. Many of my friends had those, but I first had a Schneider, with a 3"-Floppy (yes, really! the disks looked like the 3,5", just were a bit smaller and much more expensive), after that I went to the PC. Was quite hard to get games at that time, most of my friends had Amigas... So I started tinkering with the box... And that's what I still do...
In a few minutes I'll put in my brandnew hard-disk and then I'll have to install Fedora again... |

You can browse the internet on a commodore 128, but running linux ummm apparently a commodore pet was used for the very first os which was a subset of linux so i dunno exactly but 64 machine probably not, too much electronic jiggery pokery but a pet probably some very scaled down version |
