Ok, so he's clearly after easy money - but he has to work hard for it! He is also as connected as we are in movie circles... Shocked

How did it go notobe? Has he just wussed out, or is he keen to play?

Just for everyone here who isn't involved in the wonderful, tiresome trade of film...

*In the beginning is the idea, the producer gets excited about it
*Producer gets the script drafted
*Producer budgets film
*Producer incurs significant legal and accounting costs, pays for a lot of lunches and goodwill from directors, DoP's.
*Producer punts script around potential investors, tax schemes, etc
*Potential investors make producer jump through hoops
*Producer gets in contact with agents for 'names' (eg Brad Pitt, etc - cinema bankers) to satisfy investors.
*Agents want 'pay or play' money (not insignificant - tens-to-hundreds of THOUSANDS of pounds) and the 'name' reads the script, and wants changes...
*Producer yanks writers chain to make changes
*Back round the loop and keep going until producer either gives up broke and in tears, or a sillily complicated funding agreement is set up involving tax schemes, film council loans, share sales, private loans, sale of first born, balanced like a house of cards - but that's what happens when you're trying to find over 1M!
*Producer spends the cash and makes the film (how much is hidden in this line - you don't want to know...breathtaking amount of work!)

If this is still alive, then I'll whip up a producer character and rope some of you in as financiers, co-producers, execs, potential directors, potential cast (oh the fun of casting sessions!), and finally work our way through to the funding collapsing (oh this happens oh so often, even for some great scripts).

I think potential 'hooks' for our lads would be the enormous amount of money we're discussing (in case some of it rubs off onto them) - I'd suggest around the 1M mark until we start talking with 'names'. And if we're talking about shooting on location, well that sounds just like '1M of ransom money is available for these people' to me. If we sound serious enough, I could imagine quite a lot of hoop-jumping may be possible with a long-game lad dreaming of buying his own oil field.

Or if he's lazy, then it could be fun for us to have a semi-serious crack at this anyway as a community - scaled back dramatically of course, but some of us must have a few quid they wouldn't mind punting for an edutainment project like this - there's plenty of inventive talent out there Smile

MBL
PS - Gaffer - rigs lights where the DoP tells him. Has a 'Best Boy' and sparks/electricians working with him. Gaffer Tape (aka Duck Tape) is what gaffers use in their work Smile
