Just when you think you've seen 'em all, some mugu throws a curve ball at you! I almost dumped this in the surplus forum as a cheque mule run (and it might be further down the road), but it doesn't come off that way. Maybe an MLM? Training fees? If anybody knows this one, kindly lemmy know...

Prelude to a cheque scam?

First you correct all their lovescam formats for them (the Vlad ones I had were so badly bablefished they were a joke), then they 'overpay' you with a huge cheque and ask you to WU them the difference.

I could be wrong of course, but it doesn't smell legit.

Sounds like an Overpayment scam to me too. Maybe you WU the difference to another "representative" near you instead of back to West Africa.
Some of these lads are going for a 3+ -step laundry cycle.

I'd start by asking where the "offers" are coming from?

Seems like the lad is trying to get two freebies: fake cheque scam combined with getting his script re-written. He needs someone to improve his script into better English, so it will be more believable for victims.

Actually, shelve that. They'll end up in another third world country, where some poor school leaver will think he's scoring a dream job for 'only' 200 dollars which he'll somehow beg and borrow, so no matter how badly we word it, it'll be effective. It'll be interesting to find out for sure what he's up to though. Obi: I guess it's ok with you to bait him?

I agree with Persephone. I think it is a check scam combined with a fix my 419 transcript. I say bait it and see what happens. Maybe you will be able to fix his scripts nicely for him. Twisted Evil

Heck, this might be a new modality (though I doubt it). Time to put my hook in the water and see what happens!

I'm guessing there will be WUXfers involved, maybe a fake site or two and hopefully some bank info. Then again, it could just be some moron wannabe business who won't get a real website. If that's the case, the lazy buggers deserve any hassle they get!

Yeah, I'm seeing a great opportunity to drop hidden bombs into their 419 scripts to warn off real vics. I'd love to get a piece of this -- as a writer, I see it as a great writing challenge!

But of course this one can be baited. As far as I know, any scammer listed in the general or surplus forum is open-season unless an explicit "keep offffff" is posted along with it. Give 'em what fer! Very Happy

Hmmm, header resolves to Marina del Rey USA. While I realize that plenty of scammers work in the US, it just seems odd that someone in the US would be looking to get help with their English on 419 scripts, so maybe that's not what this is. Anyway, I'll bait 'em and see what happens.
