I hope the mods wont object to me starting a thread on this. I didn't find this video "funny/amusing or RANDOM" so I didn't post it in that thread.
<snip from the Digg.com description> This man with autism, who was chosen to sing the national anthem, got a case of the giggles half way through. Listen to what the crowd does to support him.
I will have to admit, it choked me up a bit. Cheers to you Fenway Crowd, cheers to you.

There's much more to that than you may realize.
Traditionally, in contrast to most American baseball stadiums, the National Anthem is not sung by the crowd at Fenway park. It's only sung by soloists or played by the organ.
So that's makes the crowd's reaction even more special.
Supporting children with impediments has been a part of Boston baseball for decades. http://www.jimmyfund.org/ |

I happened to be at Fenway that day and it was something special. kd is right about the crowd usually not singing the national anthem. The announcer always invites the crowd to join in and they flash the words on the scoreboard as the soloist sings, but we hardly ever do.
Now "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond is another story entirely. |

I didn't know that KD.
As for the reaction of the crowd, I would expect nothing less from the fans of an American League team. Thank God he wasn't singing at Wrigley Field.

I'm not an American, but yeah, that was good.
In New Zealand it's pretty much a solo as well when the national anthem is sung and have seen a couple of times the crowd have chimed in to help out as such.
GREAT to see people helping when needed, Be it one person or a stadium of them. |
