Looking for some kind of audio playing software that has the ability for me to gradually speed up and slow down the audio on the fly. Think of something like Winamp with a faster/slower speed slider function. Again, it is to be able to do this 'live'.

Any likely suspects?

Free always helps! It's for a one-off project so it would help not having to invest. Still, if it isn't free, let me know the title all the same Smile

Analogically (fast = higher pitch; slower = lower pitch) or digitally (= no change in pitch)?

The digital method usually takes time to resample the data and can sound very silly (faster) or very choppy (slower).

The analogical method sounds either like Alvan and the Chipmunks (faster) or the Borg (slower).

To sound good, anything in between needs extremely good software and time.

Analogically KD. I can actually do this effect in real-time in Premier Pro and After Effects, however it's not exactly the most efficient way to produce the effect I require Smile

I played with this about 7 years ago. (Ham radio related) I think I was able to adjust the sample rate and save it to a file. Take a look, it's free.

I use RecAll-Pro at times which can speed-up / slow-down running digital audio files. Pitch remains the same but it does tend to be somewhat choppy. I have the paid-up version but I believe there is still a free download from http://www.sagebrush.com/recall.htm

Use the [pg up] key to speed up and [pg down] to slow down.

If you want REALLY good quality, try an external processor like a floor pedal, like the DigiTech VX400. It has the capability to be connected to a PC with a USB connection and comes with software. Two friends of mine are in the same band and have the exact same one and it's fantastic. Problem is, it costs somewhere in the neighborhood of $250.00 Shocked

Pro Tools can do that. But that it not cheap software.

mplayer can change the speed of playback in increments of 10%, which may not be fine enough for your purposes.

Use the [ and ] keys to change the speed.

It's open source, native Linux but available for Windows.
