Reading through eater, I sometimes see posts and baits where it ends with the baiter telling or wanting to tell the lad he's been baited.

In the short run maybe there is a little bit of a payoff to telling the lad he's been had. The baiter may get a sense of accomplishment or superiority. Maybe the lad will feel some frustration. But in the long run, is it worth it?

Your thoughts and comments are sincerely welcome......as a general rule, at the end of a bait, should baiters let the hunters know they've been hunted? Or will it eventually give the lad an edge and hurt baiting?

Make no difference either way?

Personally, I think we keep the upper hand by never letting a lad know "You've been had!!!!"

Very easy... The answer is NO.

Edit to add: To do so would educate the lads. Keep the bastards in the dark. If you use one of the great tools on the Eater (like 1TV5) and you burn him, he will never fall for it again. There are many other reasons.. but I am getting too tired to type.

The only thing burning a lad does is boost a baiters ego. There is no real reason to do it.

@ ameriken - This was hashed out in a thread not too long ago (i'm sure a search will reveal which one). Almost all agreed that it was not a good idea to burn lads unnecessarily. Sorry mate... the issue is no longer contentious... but if you want a debatable topic simply start an ethics thread (erm... i'm going to get banned now aren't i? Laughing

)

Started by myself actually. It's a good question to ask, especially as in many of Shiver's earlier baits he tells the lads that he's been baiting them. Baiting has evolved quite a bit since then.

Here's my 2 cents. I just got S4ndr4 on a safari. From reading on the boards I know that she is also being baited by several other people. If I burn her, what does that do to their baits? What if they were close to getting a trophy pic, or a handwritten poem (yeah, I got that mailed to me too Very Happy

)? I'd hate to think I got my fun but ruined everyone else's who's baits would most likely end because of my 'burning' them.

I only ever burned one lad. That was recently....he is one of the lads that I used for the TV-show to get a trophy from him. I called him and during the call it was absolutley clear, that he was going to drop me. So I burned him on the phone. He didn�t like it Laughing

However, I am still going to rebait him Wink

There IS one good thing about burning a lad: He will become so paranoid about being baited that he might drop a real victim once they start to be complicated.

Otherwise I would say: Don�t burn them generally....it usually doesn�t make sense, but burning them is NOT that bad neither...

Howcome the deal of a lifetime just crumbled around him when he was so very, very close to success?

What did he do wrong? Who was to blame?

I imagine him having sleepless nights struggling to find the answer to the puzzle, and that means that the bait still gives him grief long after I have moved on to another mugu...... Very Happy

Of course, it might also mean that he is even more compliant to the next baiter to pick him up, as he is so eager not to screw up again... Rolling Eyes

I'm pretty sure that I put this in the previous thread, but since I'm the only one that voted "yes", I figured I'd explain.
When a lad gets to the point he has doubts, it's a good thing to tell him he's been baited. Leaving him in the dark is good for other baiters. Telling him he's been scammed is good for potential _victims_. After a lad's been baited a few times anyone that goes slightly off script gets dumped. The odds are good that some of those people are simply confused vics.
The timing's the hard thing since you don't want to prematurely lose the bait. For example, I bait as Alicia Keys. For some reason reality seems to strike the lads and most will eventually say "You can't be Alicia Keys, she wouldn't be emailing some guy in Africa she's never met." To which I reply "Yep, and it took you x months to figure that out."

Where there are two or more lads involved, it can sometimes be productive to tell one lad he's been screwed over, but tell the others that he collected the money.

The only argument I've ever heard for burning a lad is that it makes them more paranoid dealing with real victims. At the first sign of an unusual question from a sincere victim they might bolt....which would be good.

HOWEVER I think that while it could have that benefit - more than likely it's just going to make things harder. Not all lads even know baiters are out there (since it's not profitable, they don't understand it) - why make them start demanding things we don't give them, like passports and whatnot - that real victims would probably offer up?

I voted no because well look at my signature. This lad, that came back for more, had been baited before, he pretty much told me so. He calls me a joker and disappears for a month. I never burned him. After the month he comes back and asks to finish the business again. If I had burned him he would have never came back.

I can understand the temptation to let certain obnoxious lads know they've been had....

I have one lad that is sending me mocking emails, because he now thinks he re-chopped the dolla that he thinks a fake scammer chopped.... Confused

Anyway, if I tell him he is a pompous fool (among his other <ahem> qualities), just to wipe the smug grin off of his face, I'd be ruining the fun for myself, and more importantly, as OD pointed out:
