Does Skype have an instant messenger part to it as well as phone calls or is it phone calls only? Also if I get skype how much is it to talk to a pet for maybe an hour a month?

Skype has an IM that I have used on a regular basis.

The cost of purchasing time for calls is pretty reasonable, but I am not sure of the actual cost as I have not purchased any in some time. Someone here is bound to know.

Computer to computer calls do not cost anything, I used that portion of the service to call Iraq on a regular basis.

The cost of Skype is pretty reasonable, IMO. I called a lad the other day(in Senegal), talked for 6 or 7 minutes and the call was 1.60 cents. You can buy the credit and it will show you how much you have.

Got it up last night, and think I'll switch over to it for my pets. I've got a sound card with effects on it, plus I used to sing/growl/scream/snarl a bit in a metal band. Might make for some interesting phone calls for some of these deeply religious lads at 3 AM their time. Laughing

I am having one problem though, and that's getting skype to pick up my voice through the headset. Any idea on how to adjust this mic so I can get going?

May be obvious... but is the mic plugged to the right outlet? (ya know: green to green... pink to pink Wink

In Skype Go to Tools > Options and see how it is set up under the Audio section. I'm assuming that you have your mic plugged in thru your sound card. Select your sound card, and then make sure in the System Tray that the sound card Mic isn't set to Mute

I can finally get a little bit of my voice to appear, but it's low and faint. Plus the fact that I can't turn off the mickey mouse sound affect doesn't help. Confused

You guys speak into these headsets about like a regular telephone right?

Double edit: Looks like it works, can't wait to call up some deeply religious pets doing my ... Lamb of God impersonation! Twisted Evil
