Okay, I searched the first few pages of the main forum here and didn't see mention of a recent NBC Dateline: To Catch a Con Man special that was on the American NBC network. This was a fascinating story of watching a famous TV news reporter, Chris Hansen, scambait several lads, and then we watched (with hidden cameras) him meet and talk with them. This was a typical scambait but it was cool to see this issue taken seriously.
I missed the show, but it can be seen at: www.YouTube.com, if you search the name "Chris Hansen."
What fascinated me even more though, was the show: To Catch an ID Thief. This can also be found using the same search method described above. We follow Chris Hansen as he finds a website advertising Credit Card Info, stolen and for sale on the internet, for $5.00 each. Within 10 minutes the stolen credit card numbers are being used to purchase $1,000.00's of electronic merchandise from the internet.
Chris Hansen sets up a fake store, advertised on the website he finds the stolen credit card info, and within hours is selling loads of stuff. We follow him as he attempts delivery at addresses, and we come to find out, the addresses are places where folks receive the merchandise, and then ship the items to.....West Africa. What's really interesting about this to me, is that this "credit Card fraud" is always poised to be local crime, and come to find out, the majority of it seems to go right back to West Africa organized crime cells. Interesting.
What kind of scam is it, where the Scammer, contacts you about "brokering" items for his customers? I know I've gotten those types of letters in my e-mail.
OFF TOPIC: Definitely check out the "To Catch a Predator" on YouTube if you haven't seen it yet. This is the series that started it all!

There's lots of discussion about these things in the General Chat forum. Or if you search this site, you'll find a lot more, too - not just dateline but other tv shows from all over the world
