Mr James Kirk is an elderly gentleman who's trying to claim some funds left to him. He's traded a few emails, and has been asked to send in $9500, but he's worried that it may be a scam, so he mentions this angle to the nice barrister. He gets a rather lengthy (and breathless) reply assuring him "that this is real ok" and that he should send &9500 to the bank for fees.

Wait, what? &9500? It appears that the mugu has been knocked off balance, and in his haste to assure James of the legitimacy of his endeavor, has made a harmless typo. Kirk, though, ever the tactician, sees it for the opening that it is.

Quote:
I'm a lttle confused about the amount, though. You wrote &9500. Is that in English Pounds? Can we convert it to American dollars? That would be quite a lot, about 19,000 American, I think.

Will the good barrister bite? Yes. Yes he will.

To Convert The total amount will be $19,000 USD and you can send it possible any amount you have at hand ok

They always manage to inflate the conversions. It's the First Law of Lad Math. I asked one lad to convert UK Pounds to Danish Ounces, but he never wrote back. Laughing

EDIT: added "never".

From the way he's writing his e-mails now I can tell he's terribly excited about the windfall that his victim unwittingly gave him.

For your next correspondence with him, you may want to convert the &9500 to ohms:

Using Ohms' law, R=I(currency)/V(voltage or difference),
we get 2.052 - I would not hesitate to explain this to him, at length -

He'll probably want to correct the senile Mr Kirk, and suggest an even larger amount.

Just a thought Laughing Wink

I've found this to be true. While many lads will do actual conversions for me, when I make outrageously wrong conversions that will net them extra, they always tell me I'm dead right and just send it to them.

When I go the other way, like saying $4,000.00 Pound Sterling works out to about $250 CDN, they tend to be a lot more savvy about current exchange rates. These guys might not know much, but they know money.

I still haven't found a lad who will accept Canadian Pesos, Transylvanian Cuspids or Republic Credits, but only one of them told me to "get serious" and twigged. The rest just advised me to convert it to USD and reminded me that I didn't have much time.
