Got this scam letter from the "Royal Crown Insurance Company"

"Dear Intending Partner,

My name is Philios Zachariades (General Manager,ROYAL CROWN INSURANCE COMPANY), I want to use this medium to solicit your assistance in relocating and investing US$35M in your Location/Country.

Kind Regards..." blah blah blah

I responded:

"I'm not experienced in business, so you would be better served to invest with someone else. I do, however, need to buy some insurance for my bicycle. Please send me an insurance quote for a 1983 Huffy 10-speed in mint condition."

His response?
"To insure your Bicycle it will Cost you US$2,500.00"

I asked, and yes, this quote includes theft AND liability.

Ask if he can quote and compare other bike-insurance companies for you.
It's all the rage these days. Why, I just had a telemarketer offer me only $1,000! And I've heard I can save 15% or more with just 15 minutes on the phone.
Laughing
Great response you got there. You get TWO smilies. Very Happy Smile

Sounds fair...I better take it for my spare bike.
Since it only cost 40 Euro when I bought it second hand I bet THIS insurance must be about 6000% risky free Very Happy

While that's funny....Here in NYC, people DO insure their bicycles....LOL

Good one! I love it!

Ask about the basket that goes on the front of the bike - that you carry your puppy in. Ask if that can be insured and if they also can cover the pet when he's riding too...

Ask then if it covers pet pee - because sometimes little Fido gets excited....

~VegasBaby,

Tell him you want it. Ask him to draw up the policy including what the policy does and doesn't cover. Then burn him for missing things out, appaling spelling etc.
Ask if there's a discount for paying it all in one go

Ah - more and more people from NYC show up here every day. LOL

You need to get a quote about seats being stolen - - covers for seats in the rain - - the front tire - - chains - oh - and do they have a # to call in case you forget the combination or lose the key to your lock....so much to think of - LOL

What if it gets hit by a subway car????? Need something in there about that, too!

BTW I need to get myself a bike - but WHERE would I put it????

Are there discounts if you have airbags and anti-lock brakes?

What if you have a disability--you are blind? Most insurance companies give discounts to blind drivers.

What about bullet holes? Sometimes when you are making deliveries, people do not want to pay.

What about attachments? Make sure you send a picture:

Same place as everyone else in NYC -- the livingroom.

Can you ask him about coverage on my Cervelo Soloist Carbon SL? Would it be a good idea for me to add a sidecar so I can take my grandfather to church? Laughing

Perhaps we can turn him into the world's premier bicycle insurance broker... Cool Laughing Very Happy

No! Crying or Very sad We don't burn them for their appalling spelling, we positively encourage it.

Is that quote for comprehensive or just liability. Are passengers also protected? What about customizations? My motorcycle provider charges more for custom items (like maybe a horn or bell, handlebar ribbons etc)

The policy should be interesting! Laughing

I hope you have fun with it. Is there a multi bike discount? Shocked

It's quite obvious to me (in RL insurance is what I do, as is the case with other members here) that his quotation does not include marine use, so ask him for a revised quote since you want to cover all the bases.

His premium of course is acceptable, but since ALL insurance companies accpet direct online payments he'll need to provide an account number to transfer your payments into. That just might give you something for [email protected] to work on. Alan, as we all know, is a god.

Be sure your mugu knows that you're interested and need to start coverage as soon as your payment is accepted. Good work Vegas!

Hmmmm . . . under United States Law, even an international policy requires a signed and notarized policy contract--sent from the insurance company--before any policy is valid.

So I am sure Vegas will be HAPPY to send the money via WU once he receives the signed and notarized policy contract.

Then he can start asking questions about additional details and coverage--do not forget proper flood insurance after Katrina!

The pot can be "sweetened" by suggesting that "numerous" members of the company are interested in insuring their Huffys, Schwins, Marins, and Predator-Drones. . . . Each will require a separate policy. . . .

Then . . . since he will be sending greater than $2,000, 1TV5 automatically comes into play. . . .

"I have used it all of the time to receive payments. Only about 20 simple questions. . . ."

I was thinking the same thing AG. Make sure you get the same cards to replace them too. One of them was some scrub Rookie in 86 named Barry Bonds, you will need this same rookie card again.

OF COURSE I will ask for towing, what kind of fool doesn't ask for towing?

I asked for an application form and got the following response:

"In regards to your request, you are expected to pay for the Insurance Application Fee of #400.00 (Four Hundred Pounds),before the application form can be send to you."
