this is obviously a scam, but what's the angle? anybody see one like this before?

My name is Sekou Ojamwana, Gen. Secretary for the West African
"Return to the Motherland" project. This effort is sponsored by the
nations of Guinea; Sierra Leone; Cote d'Ivore (Ivory Coast); Togo;
Cameroon; Burkina Faso, Niger; Mali; Senegal; Liberia and Angola.

These nations represent the heartland from whence African Americans
were torn from in such a vile manner. Do not believe the stories in
your media about diseases, civil unrest or famine here in Africa..
These are lies perpetrated by those who want to keep you in chains and
despair.

Hope lies here for you back in Africa. Just as the great hero, Marcus
Garvey told American Blacks that their hope and salvation could not
occur in a land where they would be perpetually enslaved or abused.
Africa calls to you. It is time to come home. At this moment, the
powers that be are intent on legalizing the status of Mexicans to
provide cheap labor, which is an ominous development for hard working
African Americans.

Here is our proposal: Anyone of African descent is welcome to return
to one of the above nations. Criminal history will not be a problem,
however HIV and AIDS carriers will not be welcome. For each person who
elects to come back to Africa, they will be given the equivalent of
$5,000 US. (For most of the above nations, the cost of living is less
than $500US a year, so you can live comfortably on this large lump
sum, plus any funds you wish to bring with you from the USA. Work is
available, especially in the cocoa, rubber and coffee plantations that
abound.
Those with herding experience will be given top priority. The gold
fields and tin mines are also places of great opportunity for those
not afraid of honest work.

From Feb. 2008 for a period of 5 years, it is our goal to reclaim 15
million Americans who are trapped here. We will contract with
steamship companies for free passage out of the US.
Once in Africa, there will be a 3 day orientation, and temporary
housing will be arranged until more permanent lodgings can be found.
Men women and children are all welcome in this land of beauty and
prosperity.

Further details permitting you to sign up for this great emigration
to your true homeland will be posted later.

Woah, that's a new one on me. Shocked

I'm guessing that there will be immigration and visa fees, which good old Sekou will promise to repay once the vic has "arrived" in Africa. I might have to send him an email, and see where he goes with this.

Fees for almost anything you could think of and a lot that you wouldn't think of. Very Happy

UPDATE:

i tried investigating - add was pulled from craigslist. a search for key terms in the message turned up nothing as well. i was sitting on this add that a friend mailed to me for a month, i guess i waited too long. oh well.
