I just stumbled on this piece of information:
article on spamhouse vs. nic.at in German language (couldn't find an english version but babelfish is your friend ).
Short summery:
As nic.at denied to put off some phishing sites, claiming this would not be possible due to contracts and Austrian laws, spamhouse put them on their spam-list despite the fact that no spam was ever sent from these domains. The dilemma is wether or not this would be an agreeable way in the fight against scam or this should be dispices as blackmail practise.
I found it interesting as it rises a scam related moral issue. Fortunatly nothing a baiter has to care about |

Here is another article about this:
http://futurezone.orf.at/it/stories/201402/
Has been quite interesting (I read it back then, when it happened) It is really strange, that spamhouse makes nic.at responsible for the sites instead of the hosting companies which actually hosted the phishing sites in their subdomains. According to the article, spamhouse didnt even contact the hosters of the sites but instead blackmailed nic.at by putting their IP range on their spamlist.
Very strange acting there from spamhouse.
Just to show you how weird the wish from spamhouse was, I would like to show it to you by picking an international example:
Imagine that a big international company had a security problem and somehow got a phishing site onto their servers. Instead of spamhouse contacting the owner of the domain or the hoster of the domain about this they asked nic.at to take down the whole domain. And now imagine that the company witht he problem is a company that is dependent on its web-portal. Nic.at cannot just take down the whole company site! |
