I have started posting email addresses from scammers in some of the guestbooks I use. Though a minor annoyance, it's funny to think of scammers being inundated with emails from themselves.

^^^ hmmm.. it just means they will either delete the accounts they use or the accounts will be shut down, thereby ruining possible baits in progress. This will be a major annoyance to many baiters.

While it seems like a good idea to shut down lad accounts it really achieves nothing (unless they are phone lads) and is not recommended.

Welcome to the Eater, have a read of the stickies first, you'll find out lots of info there about best practice.

Oh, and incidentally, providing them with other scam mail may actually help them, it will provide them with new scripts and possibly new contacts.

This idea has come up several times.

To be honest, the only thing that it will accomplish is spamming some innocent website owner's guestbook, which most don't particularly appreciate.

What about signing them up for viagra spam? Laughing Wonder if there's a way to do that.

I think we were discussing this yesterday....
http://forum.419eater.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=118581

While is seems like a funny idea to send your lad heaps of spam it's unlikely to waste much of his time, he'll either just keep clicking delete (yahoo sends it to bulk mail fairly effectively) or he'll switch email addresses, which usually messes around baiters more than lads.

Just a question and not snark at all, but how many of you drop a box because it is spammed?

Personally, I don't- I just click en masse and trash them, which takes all of 2 seconds. Why wouldn't a lad do the same thing?

Not me that's for sure. I get about 100-200 bulk emails a day to my personal yahoo address, which I've had for almost 8 years. One click and they're gone (though I do sometimes check through them).

I guess that was the point I was trying to make above (and the one that was made in the thread I linked to) that spam is unlikely to really affect your lad very much, and in fact signing him up for spam will probably waste more of your time than his.

@ TS: My main idea behind signing them up for viagra emails would be to bash the manliness of some of my pets. It seems to me that our male scammers despise playing the role of a female (more than likely due to cultural standards over in some parts of that continent). Now imagine insulting their manliness with emails whose subject reads "your gay lover says you need..."

Laughing It would make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside to know that that my pets are either being ticked off or at least having to click the spam button.

@ TS - i've dropped boxes because of spam.

and if i had disposable accounts (like the lads, who simply put [email protected]) then i'd be even more inclined to.

There is a distinct possibility that one of these guys could recieve his own scam letter, and bilk himself out of thousands.

I too have dropped addys because of spam. Yes, I can click through and delete them pretty easily, but I've made mistakes and deleted important email before. I think it's a bad idea to spam scammers.

I also think it's a bad idea to sign guest books with scammer addys. Doing so could give them an influx of shiny new formats and better fake documents.
