Before I 'fess up, let it be known that my only livlihood for 22 years (1968-1990) was as a bassist in 5 different rock bands. Played tons of covers, lots of originals, yada, yammer, blah. Anyway, rock musicians are supposed to be hipper than ordinary mortals. We snickered and sneered at "top 40" pap, even as we sometimes earned our wages from it. Therefore, I humbly hang my head in shame for downloading and enjoying the following mp3's...
Vera Lynn - White Cliffs of Dover
Johnny Mathis - Wonderful, Wonderful
Pat Boone - April Love
Percy Faith Orchestra - A Summer Place
Wayne Newton - Danke Schoen
Murmaids - Popsicles and Icicles
Frank Sinatra - New York, New York
Julie Andrews - The Hills Are Alive (With the Sound of Music)
Henry Mancini - Moon River
Connie Francis - Where the Boys Are
The Monkees - Valerie
Spanky and Our Gang - Sunday Will Never Be the Same
Giorgio Moroder - Never Ending Story
Abba - Dancing Queen
Laura Branigan - Gloria
ABC - Poison Arrow
Madonna - Vogue
Oh, God...there's more, but the abyss is beckoning.
The horror.
The humanity. |

I think you'll find 'Never ending story' was Georgio Meroda and Limahl.
Formally of 'Kajagoogoo'.
As a nightclub DJ of 12 years (6 of which were spent as one of the top female dance DJ's in the UK) and a radio presenter of 16 years standing (God, has it been that long? In my own defence, overlapping by a few years)
I love that song!!!
And so much other 'crap' that I listen to 'privately'... |

I'm into metal and anything loud and abrasive. 36 Crazyfists, System of a down, Metallica etc.
A while back, i had Lionel Richie's greatest hits.

When 7" and 12" records ruled the dancefloors, (Back in the day...) she says, clicking her back as she stands up...
'Never ending story' had a 'B' side, which was Giorgio Meroda's 'Ivory tower'.
I have tried and tried and I can't get that today!
I used to use it as 'walk out music'
(Confessions of a DJ ends now!) |

I just found myself downlaoding "The Warrior" by Scandal featuring Patti Smith the other day.
I think I've recovered now though.
However cool you may think you are, musically, there are ALWAYS some guilty pleasures in the closet. |

Thanks, IWM. I wondered who was actually singing in Moroder's hypnotic arrangement. Funny, it was the DJ in (I think) a Florida nightclub who spun my 1st listen to it. And, several years passed before I learned it was the theme for an even sappier film. AFAIK, "Story" never got much radio play in the US. Anyway, good to know I'm not alone in the sea of treacle. I'll see if I can P2P "Ivory Tower" for us. |

I got it!! I got it
Alphamoon sent 'Ivory tower' to me!!
(Which then sent me into a very sad 80's type of dancing, then Adam Ant went on the stereo, closely followed by Blondie and Duran Duran just for pleasure. ln my own defence though, I would like to explain that it was Saturday night and a few ales had been consumed...)
@Alphamoon
@Ginch....This thread brought back some excellent memories. Thankyou |

For some reason, most of my guilty pleasures are older songs. I have more, but these are the first that come to mind.
One of Us - ABBA
Sister Golden Hair - America
How Deep Is Your Love - BeeGees
For All We Know - Carpenters
Our Lips Are Sealed - GoGos
Billie Jean - Michael Jackson
True Blue - Madonna
Weekend In New England - Barry Manilow
Two Out of Three - Meatloaf
Burning Love - Elvis Presley
Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head - BJ Thomas
You're In Love - Wilson Phillips
Free Me - Emma (2nd album by Baby Spice)
This Time Around - Hanson (2nd album)
BTW, I also like Morning Train by Sheena Easton |

I've been razzed quite a bit by my wife for listening to Barry Manilow. I don't know what it is, but I like a lot of his songs...
- Baby it's cold outside
- Could it be magic
- Looks like we made it
- Mandy
At least she "approves" of Michael Buble |

I have an album that was purchased by my older brother many, many years ago. During a visit to my mothers house a few years back, I took it, as well as a few others. Occasionally, I sneak out to the workshop, crank up my stereo and turntable, and listen to them. They are:
1) Frank Sinatra - That's Life
2) Nancy Sinatra - Boots
3) The Baja Marimba Band - Watch out!
4) Simon and Garfunkle - I don't remember the name of the LP right off hand.
Does that make me a dork? |
