... Although he can't maintain the role!
of the Dah Sing bank in Hong Kong (or rather, Nigeria) got a tad impatient with :
How are you and your family today? Hope all is well.
Why have i not heard from you? What is the position of things? Why the silence? Have you set up the online account with the online bank yet? If you have do provide me account details.
I need to hear from you as soon as possible.
All is NOT well, since you asked. Dad had a stroke; he's in hospital, and Mum took it very badly. They've been married forty years.
Since my brother is serving overseas he can't be here, so I had to spend the last two days with Mum until Uncle Warren could get here from Adelaide.
So now you know.
The Lad promptly hit the shmooze button:
I got your email and thanks for the update.
My dear friend and partner, sorry about the news. It is so sad Dad fell sick. And please do not leave Mum alone as she needs you very much this time. Please you people should take good care of Dad because you need them to atleast have a feel of your riches when we finally have our funds.
So please do let me know what the position is between you and the bank.
I await your urgent response.
That little delay would have given Alan time to kill off their bank account (tee hee), and since he urged Eliza to be there for her folks, he can't complain when she does just that...

I had something similar happen with one I'm working now. I told her that I had an accident, and had some (albeit minor) injuries. For about 2 weeks, she kept asking me how I was doing with each email.

Notice how he stays on topic with "because you need them to atleast have a feel of your riches when we finally have our funds"

The concern lads will show just kills me. I love it when they fall for the "my father was kidnapped when he was six years old and never seen again" schtick. So far, not one of them has even questioned me on it.
