OK, So I've posted my "I'm a rich American widow who has a boatload of money and who is verrrry lonely" all over romance websites. No takers. Is it because I list myself as 42? Is it my breath? Should I post an attractive picture? Anyone have a male who wants to scam a poor "God Fearin' Southern, Religious" gal like myself?

And also, any other idea for getting a romance scam? Or should I just pose as a rich guy next time?

Yours,
Vavin

Usually you can put about anything in your profile and the scammers come crawling out of the ooze. Perhaps saying you have loads of money and are lonely might be too obvious, but I'll be surprised if that is scaring them off. Write a profile that has enough odd things to scare away anyone but a scammer. My first one was too normal and I received legitimate responses. Scammers tend to look for new profiles and not read the profile contents. I used interpals.net and was drowning in scammers within a week.

EDIT: typo correction

mybelovednet.com is crawling with them try there. You can always go to say romancescan and pick up one to play with.

Here is an extract my profile, copy it if you wish:

Hi,
I`m new at this so I don`t really know where to begin. I am an independent businessman who travels a lot. I am looking obviously for a special person to share my life and good fortune with, I have a big heart waiting for the right girl to come and get it. Please write to me, you never know where it may lead.

I don't know for sure what the secret is but here is how I got 100 or more of them:

I went to Myspace.com. I only wanted an account to check on my teenage daughter, so I included next to nothing in my profile.

I used a gmail account that I've had ever since gmail began. I'm kinda sorry I did that now, but it was filling up with spam anyway.

I used a screen name that I've used ever since the Internet began. Another regret, but oh well. Others are using it now too.

I gave my real age and gender, Female, 55.
I gave my real zip code.
I said I am divorced, which is true.
I posted a picture of a sunset.

I did not post an intro. That was all I did. Within 24 hours I was hit on by the first wave of about 15 or 20 and aside from Tom the admin, almost all were scammers. I was stunned that they all have about the same story.

They are:
Widowed with young children.
Always 5 to 10 years younger than me.
Claim they are American but working in foreign countries.
They are businessmen who work in oil, commodities or importing,
Use male model pictures or family pics harvested from personal sites of others.
Coming on with flattery of how beautiful I am (I posted a picture of a sunset, remember.)
Telling me that they think I am the one who will be the best mother of their child(ren).
Quick to give me Yahoo IM and private email addresses, urging me to contact them.

The second day of that onslaught of lads, I went and added a profile that said pretty much, "Scammers, leave me alone!" It doesn't stop them. They don't read it, obviously.

You can check out my page if you'd like: http://www.myspace.com/popcorn_pink (and some of that stuff ain't true Embarassed )

After a few weeks the scammers have moved on now, but I think it is only because my account is no longer new. They are harvesting contacts off a list of new memberships that must turn up somewhere. I don't know but I haven't looked for one either.

If anyone needs help with backgrounds or stuff on MySpace without all the advertising that comes along with it, I'll share what I've figured out. PM me.

I also did a MySpace page for my dog that died: http://www.myspace.com/weloveubuddy and he gets hit on by 'female' scammers. Not as much though because of his younger age, I think.

i went there and was directed to a website that lets you search campsites in Europe and the UK. Am I off somewhere?

@Vav. I meant www.interpals.net. Sorry about that. I've corrected it in my original post. Embarassed

@oldbaglady et al: I've been wanting to fall in love with a scammer!

Thanks for all your details. I joined mybeloved.net and was a bit worried that maybe I would get legitimate responses. I certainly dont want to be baiting a legit person. Your posts also clue me in on what to expect now from a scammer.

To deter legits, I put that I am "divorced 5 times, maybe its because I am gone travelling all the time". I also said "I dont think I am that good looking".

I did use the suggested 'independent businessman' and 'good fortune' aspects......hopefully some blowfish will bite!

Thanks all!

Special_K......I think you've got plenty listed!

Lets see if my financially-attractive personality-repulsive profile on mybeloved can attract a few babebaits first before I get on some other sites! Twisted Evil
