Hi

I have only been receiving emails from scammers for a couple of months so am very new to the game - had my first phone call from Nigeria yesterday but went to pieces a bit. I can do the emails but am not too sure what to say on the phone so some tips would be good. Also, the emails are drying up a bit - do they get wise to you eventually?

I am looking forward to spending some time on this site - I didn't realise that there was a whole scambaiting world out there!

Can I just ask something? What phone number have you given him? Make sure it can't be connected to you in any way and keep it seperate from real life, and you'll be OK..

As a newbie phone pimper I've got some applicable advice re early phone calls. You can basically do what you like. It's not like you're starting a proper relationship with the guy, so don't worry too much.
I use a few approaches now.....
1) Straight phone calls. (For straight baits). Just answer their question, tell them what they need to do next, ask what you need to do next... just act fairly professional and yet slightly bewildered and a little confused.
2) The infuriating customer: Ask him question after question after question. Make sure he spends lots of phone credit. When he gives you an answer, ask him more questions on that subject. And then some more still. He'll get frustrated and shout at you or hang up.... but the bait goes on.
3) The waffler. My favourite. When he is becoming indistinct (as often happens) and you can't work out what he is on about, stop him and ask him if he has a good recipe for mungo stew. Go right off piste. Ask what has been on telly tonight, as you've just seen a great documentary about Norwegian magicians. Did he see it? Why not?

There are plenty more and some more phone call fielders more qualified than me will be along to help out shortly. But those are some basic ideas.

No, they don't really ever get wise to you. You could find that your original seed that you sowed (a guestbook maybe?) has got stale. That does happen, but just because your entry has been superceeded by some newer entries.

Have a look in our surplus forum, there are hundreds of lads all needing some TLC from you.

I use my friends old phone, so if the Lad somehow tracked the phone down, it would show his details Laughing

I recommend skype registered with fake details, if you have a microphone.

Welcome to the eater Trapdoor, listen to Mugatu as he knows what he's talking about regarding phones. That first call can be pretty nerve wracking but you soon get used to it and start to have fun. There's nothing quite like a chat to convince a lad you are on the level so well worth persevering with.

Hi All

Thank you for all your advice and warm welcome. I have not yet had time to read as much of this site as I would like - it took me a time to get set up last night! I have a new catcher email and some new persona's and I am now going to ebay to see if I can get a cheapo phone exclusively for my new hobby. Signed about half a dozen guestbooks and woke up to 10 spammails today so its a good start. I am actually supposed to be working now though - its a bit addictive. Once again, thanks for the welcome and I promise to share some of the 5 million I'd won before 8am this morning Laughing
