Yup they're great. I polished off book four in about a day the first time I read it. Was still going at 4am in the morning. It takes a VERY GOOD BOOK to make that happen.
Interested in a few more ideas about what people think is going to happen in book 7. There's a whole book about it I saw the other day which is pretty amazing.
And an entire book about whether Snape's a good guy or a bad guy. |

^^; I've read the first four, and while I enjoyed the first few I feel like I outgrew them. I also had issues with how some of them felt like they existed to placate fan concerns and answer fan questions, to the detriment of the overall plot. It feels a bit like a "sellout" and forced, I guess.
Honestly, I think there's better fantasy out there, even for children (as HP advertises itself) - Tamora Pierce's books, anyone? Or how about Diana Wynne Jones (writer of Howl's Moving Castle - you might've heard of the Hayao Miyazaki movie of the same name). Or perhaps Terry Pratchett's Tiffany Aching/Wee Free Men novels. Or, for a more 'horror' twist, Neil Gaiman's Coraline...I could go on and on.
But of course, that's my opinion. I don't expect anyone to start disliking Harry Potter for what I say - though I'd love for people to look into those other authors and novels! |

I have heard of a few of those authors and will definitely check them out at some stage. Oddly enough I don't really think of myself as much of a fantasy fiction fan, except for when it comes to Harry Potter. |

The book isn't out yet so good luck to anyone knowing what happens in book 7. We established fairly early on that there are to be no spoilers posted in here about book 7. When the time comes we may want to create another thread to discuss book 7.
I'll adjust the title. |

JK Rowling had the entire series of 7 plotted out before she started writing the first one. I saw an interview with her somewhere between books 2 & 3 iirc, and she had a huge sheet of paper with notes about what was going to happen in each book, and to each character. That is not to say that she could not change stuff, but I think she had a pretty clear picture of the series as a whole, not just a book at a time.
I love the books, and I love the fact that Harry Potter has interested a whole generation of children in reading, when they are also being tempted by PS, TV, the internet, etc. |

I wonder how many of the copies sold have actually been read and not only been bought because of media hype and peer pressure. But I really hope Reaper will read his copy! Including all the special features, hidden tracks, interviews and outtakes! |

I absolutely LOVE the Harry Potter series, and get more excited than the kids when a new film or book is due out.
Going to see OotP on Sunday, and I am really looking forward to "meeting" Luna Lovegood and Prof. Umbridge for the first time.
My prediction for the Deathly Hallows (book 7)....???
I think that Harry will kill Voldemort, but must sacrifice his own life to do it.
Seems obvious that Ron & Hermione will snuggle up together, but maybe thats too obvious.
So perhaps the twist is that Ron dies to save Harry, and Harry gets the girl...? Or maybe Hermione dies, and Ron and Harry become aurors..?
I think that a lot of characters will be killed in the finale, as the Death Eaters are finally destroyed by the Order.
With no Death Eaters left to pursue, the Order will switch their attention to scam baiting and take up the good fight against the internet fraud stars.... |

Back on topic, please.
My thoughts about book 7:
Ron, Hermione, and Harry will live, as will Ginny.
Voldemort dies.
People will die, most likely Hagrid, Lupin, or one of the Weasley parents.
I'm looking forward to the Snape issue being resolved- I think that he is a good guy and is burdened by guilt that he got Lily killed.
My wife is convinced that he is evil.
I'm curious to see if Pettigrew will repay Harry for saving his life in the shack. |

Of course Snape isn't evil. He's not exactly good but I don't think he wants the Dark Lord back. Snape is one of my favourite characters due to his ambiguity, cunning and courage. I'd be fascinated to discover why he originally joined Voldemort, and what made him then become a spy for the good guys (although we get some ideas from the books).
(I haven't read Order of the Phoenix/Half Blood Prince very thoroughly, though. Favourite - Prisoner of Azk-wotsit. Short, moving, scary and exciting.) |

Snape is a good character, as I was actually really pissed off in book 6 when it seemed as though he had turned out to be a bad guy. If he does turn out to be good then it will be a really awesome (if perhaps slightly obvious) twist on things.
Regarding book 7:
It's questionable whether Harry and the others will go back to Hogwarts, or even if Hogwarts will still be open. Personally I think they'll go there at least for a little while, although Harry will be rather distracted by trying to destroy the horcruxes. As there are still a few (can't remember how many, or if we even know) horcruxes left I imagine there will be an adventure to destroy each one, some people will die in the process (perhaps Ron), and eventually there will be a show-down between Harry and Voldemort. As outlined in book 5 only one of the two can live (or perhaps is Neville Longbottom the chosen one as a good twist?) so I am guessing Harry will finally finish off Voldemort.
Hopefully Ron and Hermione don't get together, as they're such an ill-suited couple. Hopefully Draco finally gets nailed for being a twat (I don't understand why there are so many Draco fans out there). Hopefully Neville Longbottom gets to kill Bellatrix Lestrange.
I agree with TSnerd that something will come of the Peter Pettigrew debt, although that's been fairly well documented. |

People love Draco Malfoy for the same reason they love his father Lucius (BRILLIANT casting in the movie BTW). Not spoiling anything I hope but the Aussie movie critics say this movie is the best of them all....... Going to see it on Monday with 2 very excited Potter Freak kids. |

^^I'd have to confess that my two favourite characters are Prof. Snape and Lucius Malfoy...
Brilliant casting, and brilliant acting.
I have long held a theory that somehow James Potter will provide a big shock in book 7.
I have always wondered where he was the night that Lily Potter was murdered by Voldemort.
Had he already been murdered, or was he up to something dastardly... |
