Does anyone else have a good supply of fireworks ready for tomorrow night? I have an especially nice selection of mortars. Not to mention I will stop at one of those stands and pick up a big box of the safe n sane fireworks for the kids. I love the 4th of July but I am such a silly yank. Family,BBQ, and fireworks. Good time had by all.

I come from Massachusetts, where the American Revolution started. For some reason, our pesky legislators decided that fireworks here should be illegal. Figures.

Tahoe already had their "celebration". A wild fire that burned down 200+ houses last week. Crying or Very sad

At this time of year where I am, there's a really strong wind in the evenings, so if you can get the fireworks to light at all in the first place there's a good chance they'll tip over or blow away. The wind will carry the sparks to places they really, REALLY shouldn't be even if you're careful about where you set them off.

We get a LOT of fires, sometimes including large-scale forest fires. Sad

I personally will be settling for those Pop-It things which are far more messy than they are flammable. Smile

If anyone doesn't know what those are, they're tiny paper packets of something that makes a loud popping noise and the tiniest of sparks when you drop them. The sparks don't last more than an instant, so they're safe as long as you don't drop them somewhere stupid. You can even pop them with your fingers without getting a burn.

I love the fireworks. Neat that they are legal here too.

On the other hand I had to put my son on a plane back to Camp Lejeune this morning and probably won't see him for some time now. Crying or Very sad

I just got everything wet and kept on a little house patrol. Looks like a garage went up about 10 houses down the street about 2 hours ago. I just heard a series of explosions about 20 minutes ago that sounded like a friggin' war zone. If they don't ban them here next year I will be surprised.

edit: Shout out to our servicemen and all out there fighting to preserve freedom in all parts of the world !

This is what I had. I bought 10 boxes of these. Well some boxes were red but there were basically the same. Sorry I only had my cell phone to take pictures with.

This is one my kid took with his phone. Not bad for $21.95 for a box of six.

Anywho, the kids had a blast. This was the first year I allowed my oldest to use the safe n sane ones unsupervised. By unsupervised, I mean I wasn�t hovering over him like some kind of mother bird. He went through a hundred dollar box in under 30 minutes. I took me about an hour to go through the mortars.

We go to my uncles house a couple of towns over where fireworks are legal. He had a DJ and a whole lot of food (and beer). It always ends up like a block party. I think everyone in the city were lighting these things off. It�s the same every year.

[Massive edit] On the way home, I asked my oldest son what we were celebrating or more specifically what lead us to celebrate Independence Day. He had no idea. Damn public schools. But then again he will tell me exactly how many chemicals are in one cigarette and why I should quit. Then he goes on to tell me that he will NEVER start smoking or using drugs and tells me every negative effect it has on the body.

Oh yeah and when we got home, he had his first phone message from a girl. She was polite and addresses us the parents and asked us if it would be okay if my son called her over the summer then she wished us a happy 4th of July. My son told me he wants to call her but doesn�t think he understands girls. I told him no one does but if he ever figures them out he will hold the key to the world.
