I received this one when I was baiting the hell out of CHANGZHOU WENDI. I checked with the website www.fraudwatchers..org and it's a legitimate warning! Wink

WARNING! YOU ARE COMMUNICATING WITH A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS CRIMINAL.
PLEASE READ THIS COMPLETE DOCUMENT CAREFULLY.

I am from a group of concerned citizens who prevent fraud artists from
operating on the web. We have information from one of our informants
that a criminal fraudster, using the fake names CHANGZHOU WENDI, IAN
WRIGHT etc, has targeted you for the theft of your money.

The criminal perpetrating this fraud is commonly known as a "419"
scammer. The most common forms of �419� fraud are:

* The disbursement of money from wills to you; usually you will be
asked
to stand in as a deceased stranger's relative.
* You are asked to fulfil a complete stranger's "dying wish".
* A request for help with investing in your country.
* Transfer of funds to you from over-invoiced contracts.
* Offers for business partnerships from people who seem to be uncertain
what your business is.
* "Payment officer and project manager" job scams.
* Clandestine smuggling of money / jewels on behalf of �political
refugees�.
* Existence of a trunk-box of defaced �currency�. The scammer will
claim
that he/she can restore the currency by a secret process or chemical.
* Notification that you have won a lottery or other prize - A LOTTERY
YOU DID NOT EVEN ENTER!
* Love scams - the scammer will gain your trust and affection via a
dating site, then ask you for money so they may come and "visit you".
* Fake cheque fraud, particularly where you are asked to reimburse the
sender for overpayment of goods purchased by cheque.

Minor details differ from scam to scam but the characteristics of most
scams are as follows:

* There is often a sense of urgency and you are urged to act quickly.
* Persons (eg. lawyers, officials) are introduced to you that, in
reality, are totally fictitious characters and are often played by the
very same scammer who originally made contact with you.
* The confidential nature of the transaction is emphasized.
* There are many forged official looking documents.
* Any number of official fees are requested for processing the
transaction with each fee purported to be the last required.
* The scammer will sometimes claim that they have already paid some
portion of the requested fee. This is done to impose a sense of moral
obligation on you to pay the remainder.
* An African residing in the U.S., London or other foreign venue may
claim to be a clearing house bank for the Central Bank of Nigeria or
other African bank.
* Offices in legitimate government buildings appear to have been used
by
impostors posing as the real occupants or officials.
* Fictitious banks, or false websites impersonating legitimate banks,
may be used by the scammer to convince you that the money is real. Fake
lottery websites also exist.
* Payment is often requested through a non-secure wire transfer eg.
Western Union.
* Their offer of financial reward to you seems exceptionally generous,
in the order of USD $50,000 to $20,000,000 or even higher.

Religion is often used as a sweetener, to give the impression of
sincerity.

We ask that you please do the following in response to this warning:

1. Please do not inform the scammer of this communication. By making
the
scammers aware of our informants you could be placing their lives in
danger.

2. Please stop ALL communication with the scammer immediately. Do not
try to retaliate against the scammer, because he MAY HAVE ALL YOUR
PERSONAL INFORMATION, and doing so would alert him to the existence of
our informants.

3. Please respond to this email when you can, so that we know you have
received this warning.

I understand if you are suspicious of me as I am not known to you.
Therefore, if you doubt the veracity of our warning then you may visit
the Wikipedia entry on these scams, which may be found at

If this does not convince you then you may visit the U.S. Secret
Service

As said over & over again above, it is a GENUINE warning. The fact it is written in comprehensible English is a clue Razz

I also received this warning and as recommended above contacted the sender with a brief message and received a friendly acknowledgement.

I just seemed to me that if I was a scammer, I wouldn't waste my time sending these warnings out - from a scammers perspective there is no conceivable beneift in people believing that there is a scam about unless some form of payment is requested for the information. Therefore common sense dictates it MUST be genuine.

That one is legit too. It wasn't sent out be an Eater member, but the site it is associated with is quoted at the end.

If one were to go there and contend that it was from a lad, they would be very nice and explain that that is wrong. If, despite the clarification, one were repeat once and again that it's really from a lad, the answer might just begin to sound like Don's and my own, it would probably just take longer.

Believe me, it's genuine.
