I have noticed something strange, maybe it is just me, maybe someone else has the same experience:
On my catching account, I receive tremendous amounts of scam-mail, but nearly zilch spam. Why is that? My own hotmail account I use for daily RL mailing is filled to the brim with spam, despite my efforts keeping my adress a secret. I don't get it. Why is that? |

Have you signed up for anything or made purchases online using your personal email address? The whole "we promise not to sell you email address to third parties" line should read "we promise not to sell you email address to third parties but we will give it to our parteners cause they have stuff they want to sell you too" |

My main baiting account gets loads of very obscene spam, and little else, not all the viagra, Rolex watch, stocktip crap that my work account is innundated (because the email adress is published).
My guess is that angry lads have signed me up for it. Luckily, Gmails spam filter catches most of it. I just looked, there are 395 of them in my spam filter.
I almost cut and pasted some of the titles, bit I'd regret it later. |

I get ONLY 419 scam mails in my bait account. I signed up on maybe 5 Nigerian-related guest books several weeks ago, and I'm now getting anywhere from 15 to 40 419 scam mails a day.
I have an email addy that I use for ordering stuff online, and that one is jam-packed with other spam -- viagra, porn, watches, computers, etc. etc.
My personal email addy is used only for personal and business emails. I've had it for over a year now, and haven't gotten one spam email. |

It may be related to where you have seeded your catching account. Lads are known to use email address harvesters which they feed with search expressions supposedly helpful in locating pages with addresses of their potential marks. Christians are believed to be good marks for them, for Christian guestbooks will almost certainly be frequently scanned by lad operated email address harvesters.
My actual guess is that if your catcher accounts receive scam emails only, they may have been seeded on pages/sites that happen to be found easily by scammers but it may take a few more days (or weeks, months) until your addies will make into the regular spammers' databases.
Typical lad search term schemes are such as "christian guestbook", "business men and women aol.com", "oil manager guestbook", "catholic medical mission board", "auto traders in florida", "management schools in scotland" or even "juliet @yahoo.com @hotmail.com @gmail.com @msn.com 2007" and of course thousands more. |
