More arrests in Amsterdam

It seems that illegal Nigerians in Amsterdam are now not only deeply involved in Internet fraud, but also in drug deals. Nigerians are becoming an increasing problem, according to the police. Dutch TV station RTL reported today that Nigerians are attempting to take over cocaine traffic in Amsterdam. But if any of your Amsterdam lads has gone quiet lately, he might be starring in on of these movies on the RTL website: <a href="http://www.rtl.nl/(/actueel/rtlnieuws/)/components/actueel/rtlnieuws/2007/05_mei/17/binnenland/0517_1930_drugsbendes_amsterdam.xml"> Clicky </a>. The ones in handcuffs, I mean. The footage was clearly shot in the Bijlmermeer area, which is known to be a 419 hotbed.
Nineteen arrests, police are ascertaining about their identities and as they are staying here illegally, they will be returned to Africa.

And yes, the Amsterdam police officer really called the Nigerians "a problem", according to the article. He could heve been a bit more correct, but alas.

Interestingly, drug trade in the Netherlands, which has always been a more national affair (radiating out to the old colonies), is now being taken over by West-African's also dabbling in internet scamming. Why they chose this is puzzling to me, but the real estate market in Amsterdam (the classic way of laundering money for organized crime) is probably less accessible to them.

Either way, well done. I'll try working this bust in my baits as well.

I got a scam letter from a Chinese person today whose IP checked out to the Netherlands. Would it be prudent, if he asks for money, to give him the name and acct number of the Chinese bank in his province into which I made the deposit? Very Happy

I thought a lot of drugs were legal over in Amsterdam as well as prostitution?!?!?! Magic brownies... hashish?!?!? Was I lied to? Shall I not put that on my list of places to travel in Europe? Laughing

Guess I'll have to find another country to visit so I can say I smoked out in front of a cop.

^^^I could be wrong on this but I think the Dutch cops have cracked down on all drugs (including canabis) as they are sick of being seen as a soft touch and people going to Amsterdam just to smoke weed.

all drugs are illegal in holland but the police are open minded to a limited amount of some for personal use.
it is illegal to smoke a joint in public but you is ok in the coffee shops.
it is illegal to be intoxicated in public too,this could lead to a fine and being banned from the city for 24 hrs.they wont arrest you unless you start to argue with them

I love Amsterdam, i've been there many times

Like remmy said all drugs are illegal but the police have a zone of tolerence for people to smoke, the red light district.

prostitution is legal but only in the same area and only in the windows.

The 'dam authorities tried getting a by law through that the coffee shops could only sell to native dutch but it was dropped after the local businesses kicked off about loss of trade.

Just like any capital city if you are thinking of going be very careful, dont go out on your own in the red light district at night, mugging gangs are rife.

The police are very laid back but they wont take any messing about.

Yeah... I could really care less about the prostitution part of Amsterdam. Far as drugs just thought that aspect would be interesting. Either way, when I hit Europe, I know you'll probably find me in a pub in England and going through whiskey distilleries in Scotland (oh Glenlivet here I come!).

When you hit a certain age, you may realise that smoking anything rapes the face..... I guess I just don't have enough self-esteem to get high anymore.

bloke i work just got back from the dam and had the blueberry muffins
from a coffee shop(he is naive to wild ways of life) he loved them and nearly brought some home.
thats a big no no.

i told him to try the double choc trip muffins next time
