I think mostly it's ignorance. We had a couple of 20-something born-again Canadians to stay a couple of years ago. They had no idea what a scam email was - just waiting to fall into the hands of some "calvary greetings" scum. (But not now, I hope)

I fully agree with Harrya's post. Land scams in Queensland were legendary, and whilst they are certainly not nearly of the extent now that they were, they do still exist. Largely they exist because of the attendance in other states to people professing to be wealth creation and motivational gurus. At these seminars the idea of purchasing land in Queensland is implanted.
I had a son caught in one of these. It cost him dearly because he wanted to believe in the "infallible" concept of negative gearing.
Incidentally, I am not aware of any involvement by Nigerians. While I'm on my high horse. probably the biggest scam perpetrated on the people of NSW was the Government run Homefund (home finance sheme). It was managed by expatriate Canadians and Americans on obscene salaries, and was expanded exponentially by our own bureaucrats. Many Aussie readers would recall this. My name appears in the Senate Committe Investigation Report as one of about 50 Active objectors into the Fund, and I was not a victim, simply an accountant who understands negative equity.
So Queenlanders do not have any special standing as victims, unless it is that a bigger percentage are cashed up retirees from other states.
