What if the scam letter's IP comes from your city? Adding to that, the scam idiot actually gives you a cel phone and address in your city? Have any of you engaged a bait close to you?

I'm definitely not going to take a bait like that, but I just found a letter that fits the above description....

can you post the header so's we can have a look?
Please edit it so it doesn't have your details or blows out the forum (right scrolling) check with 'preview' first.

Right, problem is, by posting the header my location will also be revealed (a scamer in disguise here would read my previous message and check the header IP as well).... Confused

Fact is, the scamer is located in my city, offers a cell phone and address in my city, so he is operating in my city.

The address is real, however, I highly doubt it belongs to "his business"....

Nah, you seem to be living in one of the scammer hotspots so it's no real surprise that sooner or later you'd come across one that lives nearby. As long as you're baiting safe I don't see a problem. Quite the contrary, there's surely some photo opportunity or mini-safari you'd know about. And you can easily convince him you actually travelled - given your local knowledge.

btw. How do you know a cellphone is located in your city?

You could post the IP addy, it'll narrow the choice as to who you are to just several hundreds of thousands of people.
I've just run a check on mine, only 10 miles away. So do I look bovvered?

At least one Mod here even publishes his IP addy, does that help stave off your worries?

They find you in your town/city only if you have allowed them that much info..My guess is London, NYC, LA, Amsterdam, DC, on your bait. ...

To get yourself out of that dilemma, tell them that you have suddenly decided to move to 'the hinterlands', wherever you want that to be. And never forget--you can situate your bait as being from anywhere you want it to be. For me--Alaska, Hawaii, Nunavat, Mexico, Yukon Territory work just fine. No chance of them ever visiting me and they haven't a clue about those places. I can also always blame lousy international phone connections and end the phone thing there and then.

Hmm. Another web-site has a copy of the e-mail but from a different taddy, the number is 9 less than yours.
If you are in the Land of the Bullfighters I would still say you are o.k. provided you keep all your personal details out of it, as said above, you can live anywhere you want, they are not to know any better,
I see the return addy is benelux, so that haven't altered that, and the ref number you are to use is still referring to Feb 06 so they aren't too efficient.

As said before by others. If you don't feel comfortable, don't do it, go find another, there are sadly plenty to choose from.
