Hi
I have been receiving emails from Russian addresses offering to pay me 5-7% for handling money transfers into my current account (allegedly relating to 'automotive sales') which I must forward by WU, less my commission.

Has anybody heard of this. I suspect money laundering rather than 419 type scam and I would warn anybody not to get involved with these people....

From what I've heard

Russians launder money more than scam.

Quite possibly a fake cheque scam.
You get a cheque for 10000, you bank it and send 9000 to the scammer, a week later the bank calls to say the cheque turned out to be fake and they want their money back...

There has been mention that the individual or group behind these laundering schemes are Russian mafia.

If this is indeed the case, you are best served by deleting the emails. Those buggers are nasty (read, violent).

It's to do with getting the money out of accounts obtained through phishing. They send online transfers to your account using logins they have stolen, and you send the cash to them.

I'm in contact with a russian money launderer right now. They seem to like using ICQ a lot.
