Something weird happened to my friend - he has a Flickr (photo storage) account, and got a message saying another user had added him as a contact. It was a woman who he did not know, and we looked at her photos- they had nothing in common with his interests (usually, either people you know add you as a contact, OR people who have similiar interests to the subjects of your photos). Furthermore, they were not real photos she took herself (such is usually the case on Flickr) - they were of celebrities from other internet sites. Some she purported to take herself, with captions like, "view from my dad's private jet" - obviously trying to make herself seem wealthy
I first imagined a romance scam, where she would try to build up a rapport with him. He wrote why she added him, but so far she hasn't written back.
Does this sound like the start of any scams you know of? We're both puzzled. |
