I've only very recently started getting the scamscum contacting me, and while laughing away at how preposterous it sounded to me I started to feel bad for the old dears/somewhat slow who might fall for it, and I stumbled upon an idea.

When they ask for money, if you say you can't raise that amount and ask whether they might be able to get in contact with someone else who could provide the rest so that you could raise the money together, they may well put you into contact with either another scambaiter, or someone who was about to genuinely get scammed. It certainly seems worth a try- and could give us the opportunity to warn the unwary.

Of course, a couple of emails ascertaining that it was indeed a genuine person and not a mate of his passing themselves off as another victim would be required, but I would think a certain way to find out would be saying that "My son has warned me that LESLEY NKALA may not be all he claims, and I am starting to get worried" could immediately uncover their agenda- if they frantically start to try and reassure you, you've got 2 scammers to bait now, otherwise you've found someone to warn.

Thoughts?

Lad finance could come in two flavours. Either he will send you a fake cheque, or another victim will send you a real cheque or a WU transfer. The other victim is more willing to send money to someone in their own country than someone in West Africa. There is the possibility that the victim can be warned, but you should not attempt to do so yourself. If you get any identifiable information you should pass it to a mod, who can pass it on to the right people. I don't think they would ever put you directly in contact with another person they are scamming, they probably would not want two potential victims together because, as they say, two heads are better than one.

If you ask for help raising cash usually one of the characters in the scam will say to send what you can and they will make up the balance or they will waive the rest of the fees until you "get your millions." The other alternative, as already mentioned, is the old fake cheque routine.

The serious response:

1) they may dump you for someone they can get money from

2) they will bring in another lad to pretend to be the victim. They wouldn't put you in contact with another "maye"

I'm a little unclear on your concept proposal. And I'm college educated--U of Arizona--early 1970s--and from NYC--ex cabbie. . Been around the block a few times in my life so far.

Having done battle with the lads for several years, I've learned that it's best to keep things simple for simple-minded lads. It scares them away when you ask too many questions 'from the get-go'. My peers here know that truism via trial and error.

You can always add on to the bait as a lawyer, next of kin when your bait personae 'dies', many possibilities. But if you confuse them too much in the beginning you risk losing the lad. But NEVER lose any sleep over it, and move on and learn from it all.

The lad would probably just ask how much money you had and say he would raise the rest. They don't care if you don't have enough they will take anything you have.

^^^ And then they will tell you to borrow from the bank. When you've maxed out your overdraft, then they will tell you to borrow from friends and family. When you've taken all you can from them, your family hates you and your friends are laughing at you, then you borrow from the places you shouldn't. Like the company pension scheme.

When you can no longer raise a penny, then the lads will give you finance. They will keep sending you fake cheques as long as you keep sending the money back.

Finally the bank puts a stop to it - although if you're really clever you can get a friend to front his bank account so you can keep receiving those fake cheques until the police cart you off to jail.

So yes, it is possible to get finance from the lads by pleading poverty. But that will come fairly anonymously. They will not put you in touch with another victim.

My lad wants to sell me 250 grams of gold which equates to 2 Kg (as there are 126 grams per Kg). When I told him that I could only pay half of the $32,000 he was asking he emailed me

The obvious point is that there is no gold so the lad will take whatever he can get.

He's trying to cheat you.

If there are 126 grams in 1Kg then there will be 252 grams in 2Kg not 250. He's trying to diddle you out of 2 grams. Time for some big slapping.

Then confuse him by enquiring whether he means troy ounces as mentioned above and introduce carats - does he mean 9, 15, 18, 22, 24 or even more !!!!!!!

@MarkyMark. - Be a rich baiter. Pay an advance fee of a mere $5,000.00? Pffff. Its almost not worth going to the bank for. A new shipment of Mercedes is due to arrive tomorrow and the one that you have right now does not match anything in your new wardrobe. I've noticed that giving them my satellite phone number right away does wonders for their interest in me.

Actually I had a guy asking for 12000$ for a lawyer. I said I have only 4000$ but I can take out a loan of another 4000$.

The guy said, that's no problem, "My wife will send 4000$ to the lawyer and you'll send the remaining 8000$".

When I agreed he even produced a fake Western Union receipt stating that 4000$ have been transferred.
