How safe is it? I have often wondered if some of these sites are ran by scammers.

How long is a piece of string? Driving a car - how dangerous is it? Slicing a cucumber - can it be fatal? Smile

The answer, unless we're talking about some specific sites, obviously is: It depends.

I was afraid of that answer Crying or Very sad
I mean in general, Im sure there are fake sites out there but how much of a problem is it? If anyone might know...it would of course be to much for the average lad to maintain.

I really can't answer that question any other way, I'm sorry Smile But here's a link to way past when we found an online shopping site that was fraudulent and what happened as a result. It's an entertaining read (please don't necro): http://forum.419eater.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=58266&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Online shopping can be perfectly safe if you know what to avoid. If you don't, in general, it would be a bad idea to start putting your cc info on the web.

Woot? Confused

I'm sorry, I don't see the reason behind this. Is it a fake email, i.e. did you not order an upgrade of vista, or is the reseller a scam?
A few more details may be helpful in case you were looking for advice on something Wink

It's a phishing scam. I just saw the topic on shopping and thought I'd include the email information since it seemed relevant. Since I normally don't ever get emails saying "thanks for your purchase" I bet they are hoping people click on the link and enter their information. I can PM the site info to someone if they want to check it out - I can't do that because I'm at work.

Otherwise I would have put it in a separate topic.

Thanks for joining Eater, A Jersey housewife. Smile I don't want to sound discouraging or unwelcoming, but we don't cover phishing scams; they are not really scam emails in the sense that we use, although they are, of course, despicable. Sad Please feel free, though, to browse and see what we do here. Smile

www.freestoreclub.com
is an online shopping site where you can join for free to gain access to "wholesale prices" by upgrading your membership, different prices for different levels, the "wholesale price" is lowered and you can earn money when others buy from you and sign up for their own account. (you are also supposed to earn money off of their account because they signed up through you)
I joined the free program to see what it was all about. I also ordered my son's birthday gift from their online catalog. I DID recieve the gift and in a timly manner with no complications.
I stepped it up to a $10.00 per mo membership to see if it was true that I could earn money while sitting on my butt doing nothing, sadly that part never happened and I am still poor.
So this site is a 50/50 chance deal.
I just wanted to give the group a heads up on that one.
My order was less than $20.00 I often wonder if I had spent more would I have ever gotten my product or a refund ????? Was the shipment just bait to earn my trust and get me to spend more money ?
