The population of Texas is appx 21 million.
The Nigerian population of Texas--primarily Dallas and Houston--and throw in Austin and San Antone----is at least more than 100,000..More than that for sure.
According to the Texas economic fraud people---while Nigerians make up such a small percentage of the populace, of the persons charged with financial e-crime annually in The Lone Star State --85% are Nigerian.
This is a large % on a small %. No slight against the hard working and honest Nigerians in Texas. As anywhere, the bad ones give the honest ones a stigma.
Words of wisdom--if your Lad tells the money is in a secure place in a major Texas city--they have their connections there. And a 'bag-man' ready to meet you. |

A lad sent me a forged check that had a Texas return address (which I presume is fake), but it was postmarked in Des Moines, Iowa.
Des Moines has a population of only 200,000. It's an American heartland town, unlike the big cities where immigrants usually settle. But the scammers have confederates everywhere. |

Expatriate Nigerians are also said to be in Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Toronto. |

I have a lad who says he lives in Clinton Township, Michigan.
I used to live in a house where the neighbor's address was Clinton Township, and a relative in a nearby suburb. Not exactly reassuring. |

armac in texas--
Can I quote you the exact source at the moment on Tex-Nigerian scammers? No.
Do I consider the 85% disparity? Of course. I also realize that the other 15% non-Nigerians involved in economic fraud by computer in Texas must be absolute morons to think that they can't be traced.
Do I know/remember where I saw it? Yes. I taped it from some 419 report off the tv. Interviews done with Nigerian people in Houston who are of course stigmatized internationally by the few bad apples ruining the whole barrel.
Which one, he asked? It is one of numerous news reports that I always tape on my VHS/VCR when I hear the magic words 'Nigerian scam'. It could be in-between me taping an ep of "Batman'--and BTW The Mad Hatter my fave villian.
As SP above agreed with me, he too saw those stats somewhere. The point is that you too can see the stats if you do the homework. And that my aim was to let newbie baiters and lurkers to know that just because a Lad has a Houston address--usually near Hobby Airport--does not mean that he can be trusted.
Behind every Texas Lad who will meet you in person on this fabulous deal is a Lagos Lad pulling the strings, who started it all up to begin with. You will only draw their attention if you tell them you are from Texas. So my advice is to pick another US venue to be from. |

Hi Dr Phil,
WHATEVER the stats are--and with all due respect I saw higher on some other report--1% is even too much, which I know you'd agree on. But in essence you know what I meant.

Do you think its possibly to have a lad travel from TX to CA to pick up the payment in cash? Or even better LA to Ventura Co, if so, we might be able to work something out. Quite possible an arrest. |

Hi Ghost--
The lads don't need to travel from Tex to Cal at all. They have SoCal connections--sparse ones. But I have several times been given a bag-man connection for a 'barrister' in Palmdale--which is in northern LA County. And a Compton home phone # too, in which case I notified the cops on that one.
