I have a Firefox problem. I log into a yahoo account and Firefox closes itself down immediately. The problem started last night when I tried to open a mail in my Gaius Caligula yahoo box. FF started to shut itself down when I tried opening a mail, not it shuts itself down when I log into the account.

Any suggestions as to the what the problem might be?

I'm running full virus scans now and nothing so far.

EDIT: I've logged into a different yahoo account without any problems. Is it a cookie problem??????????

you might check popup blockers cookies....and possibly if you modified your Vscanner recently change it back....
it could also be a virus not defined with your Vscanner...i suggest updating the definitions....

I've wiped the cookies. It still shuts down with my caligula yahoo box. Bum.

I updated my virus, lavasoft and spyware scanners and the scans are still running.

Happens to me all the time on my laptop but usually at the yahoo homepage, I dont even make it to mail.

On other systems I notice the page loads slow but doesn't crash. I have upgraded and tried a few things but never managed to fix it. It's very annoying, especially when there's loads of tabs open. I don't know if it's the same problem as I don't even need to click on the mail link before it crashes. I've always suspected the issue I have to be a conflict with Macromedia Flash. There are always Flash ads on the page thats loading just before it crashes, and it doesnt crash all the time (maybe it's only a particular version of Flash on certain ads or something). I've never spent much time on it or looked at the source code on the page though.

Has the email that shuts it down got a large attachment, or is it a large file?

I use Firefox without problems 99% of the time, but in the 1 Yahoo account I use, opening a mail with a large bytecount causes FF to hang up, I end up having to end the program. Too lazy to sort it out, I just avoid opening large files in that account. If I want to read them I save 'em and open them up in Word or whatever.

The problem has been fixed. I uninstalled a few extensions and I can get into that yahoo account without it shutting down.

The problem was that at some stage between logging in to Gaius [email protected] and opening any mail in the account it would crash. Not sure which extension was the problem.

The problem I have with Yahoo mail is, after I log in, sometimes I click on my emails and it goes straight to them, other times the page takes ages to load or wont load at all, though I can still click things and move the scroller, I find that happens if certain heavy flash animated advertising banners at the top of the page are on view, if it's a different banner, it's fine.

If it's not too much hassle, can you let me know what extensions you had so I can reference it with the ones I have?

Firefox is usually pretty stable until you start shovelling extensions into it, then it starts to crumble like a lad on his 10th trip to the WU. It aint Lego you know and it can't be built onto indefinately without lots of problems. One of the downers with open source is that extension conflicts can crop up pretty quick, and one of the benefits is that they are dealt with pretty fast too.

I found noscript would do that to me. Once I uninstalled it all was right with the world.

To be honest, I'm not sure because I downloaded extensions that I liked the look of and installed a few of them. I can't remember which ones I had uninstalled. But what I will do is try to replicate the problem by installing a few at a time. I'll let you know what I find, if it goes pearshiped again.

I think half the problems with firefox is that it wasn't started as an open source programe.
