What's with the name "Real" in front of a soccer team's name? Is there a "Fake Madrid", or a "Fake Sociedad"? Just curious.

Soccerball is something that David Beckham now plays in the US. "Soccer" is a term that used be used in England in the fifties and then only in Boys Own or The Victor and comics like that. The rest of us call it "football" or footie because you use your feet to move the ball around.

Names like "Dynamo," "Locomotive," and such were use quite often in former East Block. i.e. communist countries. Go figure.
Most of those names weren't changed after the iron curtain fell. I'm not sure about "Red Star Belgrade" though. I'd have to check. |

Dynamo were the KGB side nicknamed the Garbage as a result.
Locomotif was a railway trade union side.
Spartak was another trade union side nicknamed the Meat because it was associated with meat processing unions.
PFC CSKA Moscow is the Army side. Nicknamed the Horses because the players were sent into cavalry regiments. |
