Hi,
I'm currently involved in very enjoyable wind up (I've posted it all on the Publish your own work here section under "I got me a job").
My question is - does have anyone have any email addresses of Nigerian authorities I can contact once I'm done winding him up? The reason I ask is that I have details of the company from where the emails were sent
(from the IP address), and I wanted to see if it was worth alerting someone who might trick this chap down.
It's a slim hope I know but I also have his mobile number (if you read the emails I've been exchanging you'll see he's not the brightest bulb in the box) and I wondered if anyone ever had any joy if they every reported a 419er?
Thanks!
Mark
PS The company is "Addyson Limited" - I shall write to people there but I'm sure they'll just ignore it... |

Scammers use anonymous, free email addresses from public web cafes that may be crawling with dozens of other scammers, fake names, fake ID, fake addresses, fake documents, and prepaid anonymous cell numbers. The IP may even show as the sender's IP for every machine in the cafe, depending on the setup.
An IP and a mobile phone number are totally useless to report. To boot, they are probably operating in a country where most of the authorities wouldn't give a darn and wouldn't arrest him for simply trying to scam you even if you could give them the turn by turn directions to his front door and a signed confession.
Sorry to douse cold water on it, but he hope is way beyond "slim". It's pretty much positively anorexic.
EDIT: Oh, I just noticed you said Nigerian authorities, specifically. The above definitely applies, then. |

Of course you can always try to use mobile numbers to stir up some trouble between scammers
Maybe I'm arriving at Lagos airport in X hours so call me on this number and ask my travel agent (another scammer) to put me on the line. If the travel agent is also expecting me at the airport and knows my name, hearing another scammer asking for me could make it an interesting conversation. Then after you don't turn up you can ring each number and stir up the confusion to whatever scenario takes your fancy. |
