Geographic and O2 mobile dialthrough nos for intl calls!
Someone might find the following useful. Original NG thread is at
http://gnu.vu/?a9iF43U3
Reprinted in full:
As many of you will know, we were trialling a new call-through service on a
UK geographic number in November. We have now launched the new permanent
service on two new numbers.
The first number is intended for people to make calls from regular
landlines - ideal for those who have cheap calling packages to 01/02
geographic numbers. The access number for this service is 01635 578562
The second number is intended for people who wish to make calls from mobile
phones where it is cheap or free to call 01/02 geographic numbers. The
access number for this service is 01635 578107
Both access numbers can be used 24/7. You will be able to call the same
destinations as with our O2 mobile access number 0773 066 6890. Anyone with
cross-network inclusive minutes on a mobile contract should use the O2
number instead of the geographic number, as we expect the geographic number
to be in huge demand! There is also another O2 access number to add extra
capacity on 0779 339 5236.
Just as a reminder, the destinations are as follows:

Austria
Azores

I don't get it What are you supposed to do? |
It's a dialthrough service, but alot cheaper (indeed, free to use) instead of sites like http://www.telediscount.co.uk.
If I want to dial Malaysia, instead of paying mobile-to-Malaysia direct dial rates of about 1.20ppm, I dial the geographic number, or the O2 mobile number, then dial out again (to Malaysia). Geo and mobile numbers are usually included in pay-monthly mobile plans.
Geo numbers are also included in BT Option One, etc.
What I don't understand is, how to they make any money from it? |

I see, so you can't use it on pay as you go then, it's only for if you have a phone on a contract, and baiters don't use those as they can be traced, unlike the anonymous pay as you go sim cards we use. |
You could use it on PAYG and still save a fortune on international calls. |
