Had 3 wisdom teeth extracted on Monday...pain hasn't been that bad so far (knock wood) ... and I don't know what to do with all this excess Hydrocodone Bitartrate.

Does anyone here have a particular interest in this Schedule II semi-synthetic opiod? If not, I'll just dump it in the trash. Wink

Yeah, I've never heard anyone ever mention anything about that particular painkiller on these forums. Ever.

Pssh. I've got a dealer - Campus Health at my university. Two people I know in the past week were prescribed Vicodin for strep throat, and one got some for food poisoning. I was nearly convinced that if I brought a bag and yelled "Trick-or-Treat" at their doors on Halloween, they would fill the bag with Vicodin.

I'm curious as to why people are interested in pain killers... they make me feel like crap. I get all drowsy and no quantity of sleep can get that feeling away either.

Personally, I suffer from arthritis, so painkillers are marvellous chemical cocktails which allow me to get on with work, being awake, getting to sleep and so on....

^^^ Last time I had to go to the hospital, they gave me Dilaudid. (Hydromorphone) Wonderful for pain, but makes you barf like a mad dog.

JT: I was in the hospital for severe head pain (thought it was a stroke, turned out to be nothing serious) but the first thing they did was give me some morphine.... holy crap I understand why people take that recreationally! That was some GOOD stuff.

^^^ yeah, you'll be floating at 5 feet off the bed real fast. I thought they put me in a janitor's closet with a TV hanging off the celing, and a microwave oven that kept beeping, while nurses came and went and gossiped up a storm. The pain was gone though, and so was I. Hip replacement. The surgeon came to see me, and he looked 3 feet tall. Laughing

Vicodin really doesn't do much for me. But that Morphine is like a sledgehammer.

I don't like painkillers either. . . mostly because they don't work on me, or don't work the way they're supposed to.
I am really chemicially sensitive and/or allergic to tons of medicine. I pretty much have all of the "very rare/dangerous side affects" listed in the safety pamphets, with none of the benefits.
If the hospital drug dealers try to sell me their wares again, I'll send them all to you guys.

I'm like you, Ima. I have a hard time with most drugs. I went into a coma the one time I had general anesthesia, for a back operation, I was in intensive care for almost a week before I came out of it. I almost didn't come out of it... Shocked

My drug of choice today is wine............

Juan & The Man, glad you're both OK. I thought I was having a mild stroke a week ago, but was a false alarm. My left arm went dead. Still no grip in the hand. If you ever need any surgery, ask for Verced. (Midazolam). AKA, liquid amnesia. It seems to be over in a minute, and you'll not recall a thing. Easy. Except for the barfing, but that passes quickly.

No problem amnesia-wise, I didn't recall a damn thing from the moment the anethesiologist said "this might make you slightly dizzy" to the moment I woke up a week later. In the meantime, however, my wife was ordering a coffin and having a headstone carved. Sad

Long ago I had internal bleeding from an ectopic pregnancy. They got me to hospital in time and operated for 7 hours. I had lost 5 pints of blood, that was over half the blood in my body and lucky to be alive to tell it. I had a bad reaction from the anethesia and 7 days of morphine was not pretty. It took this body 1 1/2 years to get back to normal. The mind never fully come back around. Wink

I share jojobean's bewilderment about the love of painkillers. They just make me feel ugh and I can't wait to get back to feeling clear-headed and awake again.

And as for morphine... why the heck would anyone take that?
In 1999, I had a kidney transplant, and I was on PCA (patient-controlled analgesia? can't remember the exact term) for a day or so afterwards. Basically, it's morphine administered intravenously by the press of a button (with controls built in so you don't overdose). Horrible! Every time I felt I needed it, I pressed the button and a few seconds later, as the morphine hit me, the world spun a few times and I felt totally disoriented. In the end, I just abandoned that and tackled the pain with silent stoicism, much better than getting some self-induced dizzy spell that made me feel like the world was a violent fairground ride.

Thing is Otter, it doesn't do that to everyone - during a 'I have a headache so bad I really have gone blind' episode, they gave me morphine and I had a very good time on it. And was then diagnosed as suffering from just about every tpe of migraine known to medicine. I just happened to be suffering attacks of all of them at the same time. Crying or Very sad

I was quite relieved, as I was sure I had a brain tumour! The only type of migraine I didn't have was the post-orgasmic type, as only blokes get that! Laughing
