Cheque lads asking for cc details

Anyone else noticed this recently? Started about 5 new cheque baits a couple of weeks back, had 3 ask for cc details. Never had that until just recently...

I'm starting to encounter that a lot more often at this end, Maybe in their trade publications there was an article about the profitability of phishing cc's, and that the Fortune 419 organizations are now going over to that as their latest business trend. Laughing

Possibly. Hopefully it will make real victims suspicious (since there's no reason for them to ask for cc details), but somehow I think this is a bad thing. It's bad for baiting too, since you cant fake cc details, had one lad drop me when I told him I dont have one...the lazy sod Rolling Eyes

I had a credit card once. It got stolen when I was mugged the week before the lad asked me for details of it.

I just tell them I don't feel comfortable giving that kind of information to them.

I just tell them I ain't gotta credit card because there ain't anything to use it on here in Pumpkin Squeal Appalacia. That those are the devils cards and only city folks use 'em..

Seems to me there are a couple of options:

1. Give totally unintelligible CC information (or provide it in an unintelligible manner);

2. Set up ITV5 to provide a "security" hoop to jump through before bogus CC information is provided.

3. Does anyone know if expired CC numbers are recycled?

Using real card numbers is probably not a good idea.
There are test numbers that pass the check-digit test that aren't attached to any real accounts. http://www.infomerchant.net/creditcardprocessing/credit_card_test_numbers.html
has some and if you google about there are more.

I've had pretty good luck claiming that my card is a special unsecured-national-visa-security-blah card and there is no CVV on it because it doesn't allow incoming funds. Then I ask for a cheque.

to answer number 3 in your list, CC numbers are never recycled to anyone but the initial card holder... meaning that if my card expires I might get the same numbers again just a different exp. date. but If I cancel a card that number is dead, as far as I can tell.

On the one level, lads likely need cc info to by online time and e-mail that will allow them to "throw" tens of thousands of e-mail as well as to buy goods.

However, I wonder if the lads are trying to use the info to make fake checks (such as those the cc companies give account holders in the US) to send to mules. I'm have too many lads asking me for this info recently to lead me to beilve they are to something.

Also, I have lads asking me about "home equity" account info. In fact, one I recently put through the ringer Twisted Evil

demanded that I open a home equity line to compensate him for his time, lost revenue, etc. Now I see check lads asking for these details as well.

Of course we should never give them anything -- especially since they may use it to scam a real victim. However, I try to work lots of questions about their requests into the bait just to waste their time.
