P.S. To think Okajima was an "after thought" acquisition.

P.P.S. Obviously was concern'd that this would have been another "ALCS Game 2" after the start, but the bullpen held. Amazing play by Pedroia to prevent a probable double which lead to a pick-off at first. That ended a chance to tie potentially.

I am really surpised the Sox have been able to put a stop on the Rockies. They have been so hot lately. I would still rather see the Rockies win because it makes the Phillies look better, having lost to the 'world' champs.

^^8 days to sit around and cool off. That can kill a run fast. I am still intrigued to see what the Sox do in Colorado, no DH can change the pace too. Plus snow and high altitudes, hopefully it will be as good of a game as last night.

KD, do they have anything over there like MLB on satellite?

Have you tried MLB Gameday? I liked it when I used it from work (until they blocked sports sites) to see it in close to real time pitch by pitch icons.

Hell is a telelvision station full of Tim Mccarvers and Joe bucks doing commentary. I think I'll dig out the old radio to listen to tonights game like in the olden days. Grr.

The R's hitters are taking the RS pitcher to long counts (4th), so he won't last long, but he's throwing good stuff. The R's pitcher really lost it in the 3rd, quick hits, good running by the RS for those 6 runs.

But it ain't over yet. One big inning doesn't make a game. Let's see what the early bullpen gives us. (written top of 5th)

Dice-K had a solid outing. Francona was smart to pull him after the two walks.

I would love to see the Rockies come back. I hate a short series.

The Rockies may pick one up, but I don't see it going back to Boston.

^ ^ ^ Not that bad--I remember watching game 5 of the ALCS back in 2004, almost a 6 hour long game, ended by that famous Big "He didn't do it again, did he? Yes he did" Papi (thanks!) single in the bottom of the 14th. 10th pitch. In a lot of ways, the longest at-bat I have ever watched. Of course, he was the hero of the previous game in the 12th inning, with the walk-off homer.

With our BP, it was just a fluke outing, I think, as Okajima is definitely not prone to giving up runs like that, and he has been solid in post-season play thus far--and Paps shut the Rockies down to finish the game. Dice-K did well, which pleases me, considering the insane amount of money we spent on him, and his often lackluster performances through the regular season. Still, there were some moments there when it was 6-5 and I was thinking, we can NOT blow a 6-0 lead!

Fortunately we got some insurance runs and held the line.

They are asshats. I mute the television. Did that today. One person complained . . . for about five minutes.

What spelled doom for the Rockies was defense and the fact that everyone in the RS line up is hitting. Dice-K also dominated until the 5th inning.

I like it when pitchers throw strikes, and that's what he was doing.

If not in the count, in throwing, as a rule any fowl ball past a x-2 count was going to be a strike and the Rs were hitting lots and lots of fowls off of him = strikes.

The relievers were throwing lots a curves and breakers (= balls). Especially the Rs lefties were throwing curves to the RS' right handers, I suspect to keep them away from the plate.

The way the Rs were going through their roster doesn't say very good things about their faith in the batting qualities of their starters.

Middle class game. Nothing exciting.

Before we had Rock n Roll part 2, a green friggin mascot, Sweet Caroline, last call in the 7th, skyboxes and seats on the Monstah, Fenway had an organ player, John Kiley (?), that rocked harder than 1/2 the shite that passes for BB today. From 7th grade on, we'd skip school every opening day and buy tickets at the gate to the bleachers and get in, no problem. Ray Fitzgerald would write in the next day's Globe what time the first fight broke out in the Bleachers.
And, in those days, the Yankees really did suck! Who in their right mind would like Billy Martin? He sucked. Mr. October Reggie, a giant suck pill. Mattingly, a true D-Bag. But, then Boggs had to go sit out the last couple of games against the Yankees faking an injury to win the batting title-any self respecting Yankee should hate us just for that. Not to even mention Ted Williams, the meanest, gruffest, sourest SOB to f w/ the Yanks. His head's on ice and he could still kick the Gerbil's ass.
But now? The Red Sox and the NYY get along with each other. MLB has wrecked any rivalry by milking every $ out of it they could by having us play each other 20 times ayear.
And, I miss Johnny D and I happen to like A-Rod, Jeter and Joe Torre. You watch a Red Sox Orioles game and 50 people have Yankees Suck t-shirts.WTF? Get over it and just enjoy good baseball and enjoy kickin their ass. Every true RS fan felt the same way this year when we were 14 games up...scared! 2 games up and the Yankees closing in is what we expect because we've been choking for 84 years.
As for the Rockies. C'Mon, really, Denver is a Football town, black & purple? Bring back the Zephyrs!
