This just in... from two different addresses:

One is from Antonio Luca ([email protected]); the other came after I replied to a holocaust scam from a Dr Volker Paul ([email protected]).

I didn't accuse the second Lad of being a scammer and as far as I can tell never got anything from the first.

Any advice on this one?

Yes.
Give him hell for turning to Christ and then using unChristian words such as "bullshit".
Also, tell him you're a Muslim and you're declaring jihad on his skanky bible-bashing arse.

Don't trust him. But don't bash him, either. There is a small probability that this warning will reach real victims and actually warn them. The link to scamwarners is great...

That makes me laugh. But I would play it out and see what happens. Every once in a while a scammer does move on, but that is rare. The cynic in me says there is a scam ahead. But the hopeful in me says he really changed. Luckily, the hopeful has been crushed by the cynic some time ago.

I sent a generic "Tell me more" letter to luc@101luca and just received this letter from dr_volkerp@ul:

Tell him to prove it, by sending his warning in a mass message to all of his victims. Of course, he has to CC it to you so that you can see the addresses in the to field for proof.

Interesting indeed. I received an 'offer' from the very same which so far I hadn't replied to. I have now sent him a first reply, playing it as straight as I can manage. I'll keep you posted with the results.

Update: 29 October: hasn't replied yet...

Update: 3 November: is not to be trusted. He replied with a long-winded story, adding a scan of an ID-card and a passport which are at best very lousy fakes. He's got a new mail address:

Reply to his first email from a new email address, pretending to be the hapless victim, and see if he has REALLY changed.

There is a remote possibility that another person used the cafe computer after the lad and found that he hadn't logged out of his account so he sent you a warning but didn't want it to appear like he had hacked the guy's account so pretended to be the scammer. They could either be a rival lad or a genuine person.

That said... it's unlikely... but always a possibility.

I think it's doubtful, because I thought it came from both of the email accounts.

^^^ Ah, I see. Well, unlikely then. I only mention it because there have been circumstances like this in the past where it has been a genuine warning. Either way, it is easy to establish if the lad's still in the scamming business with a nice ASEM Wink

I would go with a lad on lad approach. Tell him that you are a big boi and you can help him out with his format.
