What sort of hosting service have CastleCops got, that allows them tp remain online during the attack, and at the same time, host aa419 while they are being attacked? Confused

I see the posts missing, which is no big deal, but there seem to be a few other glitches. Are they associated or separate problems?

When Rover restored the backup it acted like a time machine, Ima - so anything you did (posts, deletes, etc.) never happened.

I'm not sure the Reaper post...I noticed that too.

Currently, all guests are Eaters who are either logging in or those who have logged out but left the browser window open, just as any new member who joins up is most certainly going to be a troll.

A single IP address is all that is required along with a network that can be isolated. If your site is being attacked on a shared IP the hosters will likely take you offline. If you have a seperate IP then admins/hosters are able to drop the attacks at the firewall but sometimes the attacks from random IP's happen so quick that the server or firewall cant deal with them at the same time. Some hosters will sort something out while others will just suspend the account and get back to reading the paper.

Shared hosting with a seperate IP is ideal.. but stay away from re-seller servers or open a re-sellers account. If you come accross a free hosting site and find there is no support and is down most the time then that's likely hosted on a re-seller server, who could have hundreds of other people with free hosting sites running on it along with the torrents. Very Happy

419eater.com is reguarly attacked but has only been down several days over the last few weeks. There was an attack last week which was organised and apparent that they spent alot of time arranging it. I hope they are reading this because they failed miserably.

Two weeks in the bunker

As we come up to our two week mark in this bunker, I believe it may be time to try and pop our heads up over the wall to see how the bot attack is going.

Starting this week-end I will be testing the forum.419eater.com domain for load. If the attack has gone away then I will bring us back slowly.

Public visibility is what the 'Eater needs.

Many of our contributors/lurkers never made it to this bunker and would appreciate it. Some may feel the urge to donate as a token of appreciation for the hard work the site admins have done.
