18 Sept

We are still under attack! - Our firewall is holding up okay - although you will probably notice a slowdown in the system.

Another pesky BOT that wont give up is 89.31.91.173 (Russian Federation Moscow Teleinform Network)

Between 205.250.213.97 and 89.31.91.173 they are hammering our server non stop!

Is there any way we can hit back at those IP's now we know what they are or would that be illegal/pointless?

We are unable to locate the address 89.31.91.173 at this time.

Apart from writing to the abuse@ email address thats all we really need to do.

On another note.

While the attack is certainly not over (as I type this I see a few bots hammering at our door) However our firewall is taking care of them right now.

This attack on eater has and is quite a wild one! at one stage we had well over 100 bots attacking us from all corners of the earth. Predominantly from Korea, Russia and Japan - As one person my hands were pretty full just mitigating the attack sorting out temporary sacrificial lamb attack machines and temporary bunker domain names. There are most certainly some members here that came to my aid and helped alleviate the burden. Here is a list of those that helped all of us.

Eliza Doolitle / Rodus Longus - for setting up the temporary forum at yuka (we go down more often than a $5 whore on a good night) .com
Lotta for managing and coordinating the invite lists - This was a massive task my mailbox is still overwhelmed with invite requests
fsnuffer - my long time trusted friend - who helped me load up some protocol analyzer tools on eater (also for getting hold of tellus and telling them to "No no.. Do not talk! Do not talk!......just listen to me you fool..." <--- that was frikken hysterical (That was fsnuffer talking to a genius phone operator over at telus!)
Breadcrumb & the rest of the skype chatters - for helping out on the skype chat system - relaying my messages in terms of the status of the system.

and last but certainly not least all of you as well - 1: for the kind words and 2: for being the community that you are - hanging in there and coming back with a vengeance!

There is no doubt that this will happen again - I'm sure we will be able to handle whatever they throw at us.

Now I'm just going to sink back to what I normally do.

Just got a call from the CIO of Telus and he is forwarding my request to the VP of operations. He seemed very annoyed that we followed their procedures and they were ignored.

Advice to fellow members. Don't bother with the abuse e-mail address. I asked to be put through to where the real power is. Not the CIO but his executive assistant. Wilma at Telus is the deal. I just got off my fourth call from Telus networking folks, including a senior VP. Once I got past the first level support wankers these guys are really good and funny. The best comment I got was "I just got a ticket from a place where you don't want tickets to come from". Everyone I talked to definitely confirmed that Wilma runs the show and first level support is not going to have a good Tuesday.

When I was looking for a handle, there was a guy in my office with the last name snuffer so I pick the random name FlufferSnuffer. When my buddy told me what a fluffer was I did not want to people to think I was out there killing porn film support staff so I shortened it to fsnuffer.

Please bear in mind that the attack is still taking place! (although a lot slower than in the past) The system will slow down as a new wave of attack starts please bear with us as we mitigate it

20th Sept

After last nights firewall hardening exercise it looks as though it has paid dividends!

So far so good! - there still are a couple of bots knocking at the door - but my little script seems to be taking care of them.

Hopefully this will be the last update I need to give for a long time!
