There's some good advice in that article, but it leaves out some key weaknesses inherent in the robot race, and it assumes all robots are the same. In my experience with robots, the type of robot you're dealing with must be analysed before planning your escape. For example...

If your robot is one of those cute little things that talks in beeps and whistles and looks like a shop vac or a garbage can, your escape will me much easier than if you're dealing with one that looks suspiciously like Arnold or that beautiful chick from the 3rd movie.

While most robots will sink in water, keep in mind that many of them have the ability to fly at least for short distances. Unless you have a pocket scuba tank or gills, I would not suggest water as an escape avenue if the robot is tracking you.

Mind-tricks do not work on robots at all, but they are actually not very smart. Even if your robot is fluent in over 6 million forms of communication, it will lack the ability for abstract thought. Asking the robot to explain (example) the merits of senatorial democracy to you in a poem will buy you valuable time. Many robots cannot tell the difference between a power outlet and a computer terminal, which can be used to your advantage.

Most robots will have a verbal over-ride code that will shut it down in the event of an emergency, and many are programmed to shut down if they try to arrest a major executive of the company that built them.

If all else fails, you can distract your robot by first insisting that you are an upgraded model of it and not an "organic meatbag", then charge up your favourite plasma weapon and blow it into oblivion. (since killer robots exist, hand-held plasma weapons just go without saying)

Next week, the real threat: Carniverous furniture.

Remember if you are being followed by one of the cute beepy ones that look like a trash can, stairs can be your friend, but remember some of them come with rockets/jets to help them in that situation!

Wifey just traded in Gen 4 Roomba for a Gen 5. 'Though it does have better batteries, and a bigger chip for schedualing, I'm not not going to worry about robots. I can still out run it. [where's that rofl?] When it checks my email, maybe it's time to worry.

I dunno, the second one kind of blew compared to the first. But if it becomes available, I'll upgrade to a 360!

Oh and I almost forgot: not all robots will turn hostile, but they can all be re-programmed easily. If yours does, just find the little switch on the back and move it from "evil" back to "good" and you should be fine!

*You probably won't complain as the robot will have eliminated you.

I put this up at my desk, in case they come for us at work. And it's within easy reach, so I can snatch it down when I see them coming.

I'm bringing my reserve of cool mud and leaves tomorrow to keep in my drawer. And they said I was nutty when I hung those thermal cams over every door of my 7 story building! Smile
