Baiting vlads

So since these people are auto people, here's an idea..

When we get these 419 Nigerian scams....we could maybe bait them as used car dealers. We can offer them jobs - if they can go on ebay (or where ever these vlads sell their cars) and find certain types of cars for us - we will offer them X% of the money we make after buying and selling the cars.

So we "hire" the Nigerians to find the vlads....

Or is this educating the Nigerians? Would they catch on to the scam and begin to do it themselves?

This sounds good, and not-so-good, but mostly good!

Vlads deserve all the attention they can get as retribution for their attack, and we all know that lads will scam other lads just as quickly as they will a real victim. And I just love to get lad vs. lad fights going any time I can.

This might, might, be educating our Nigerian friends. Even though they seem to resist learning ANYTHING if they can help it, I'd hate to give them another way to chop a dolla. I rather doubt the Lagos boys would have the patience or proper abilities to run an auto scam, but many of them are smarter than we like to think so I guess it's worth thinking aboot. If I was intelligent, I'd probably find a way to strike a balance.

Let's face it, if we can turn our lads into assistant-baiters without them knowing it, that would just be the icing on the cake! I like the way you think, Eliza.

Yeah I love the idea, but there is of course that concern about educating the lads. I guess hopefully a few mods come along and use their wisdom to nut out a good way we could do this.

Lad vs Vlad.... sounds like a bad movie!

I just know that there has to be a way to kill two birds with one stone. We just need to discuss how to do it - and then we don't have to choose to bait one or the other - we can have a new modality that can hit them both at once. We are smart. We can come up with this. It has to be a way to not educate th regular lads - but effective in shutting down both types.

Definitely should be a way to do it.

How does a vlad auction work? I guess they list something on ebay that doesn't actually exist, demand payment from you via some untraceable means and then disappear on you?

Perhaps one way of doing it while also keeping our lad in the dark is to make our lad believe 100% that the auction is genuine, keep feeding him reassurances that you've dealt with this guy before and your transactions went through fine. This way the lad surely wouldn't have any reason to think that the vlad is a scammer, and as a result wouldn't think to learn anything from them???

That might be a start.

I you could convince the Vlad to remove the item for sale as you are send you friend down to WU to pay for it, give the VLad the Lads address and promise the lad the money tomorrow. Hopefully a bunfight will be started between vlad and lad maybe possibly well one can hope

One concern just off the top of my head would be that our lad's would figure out the vlads are scummers... and much better at scamming. It could turn into a nasty way of educating the lads, but I wonder if they might start picking up tricks of the trade from each other? There is no loyalty among thieves, but I wouldn't want our techno tard lads to know how to track me down with my IP (or on a more serious note learn how to say make better fake documents).

Edit: The trick would be to have them going at each other's throats and not striking up some sort of professional relationship.

I agree full auto. You do probably want some situation where they're introduced to each other in a way that's going to make them immediately go at each other's throats, rather than pick up useful tips from each other.

Perhaps if they're interested late in the situation, like you pass your vlad onto your lad (or vice versa) at the stage when they've been asking for money for a while.

ED: I like this....but with some concerns....

So I recruit a Lagos lad to go find a Vlad auction.
Then, per our agreement (because my lad doesn't have the $$), I put up the "money" to the Vlad for the car, promising my lad his 10%.
Except, I'm not using Paypal, but a b2b transfer that both lads can monitor thru , or a WU payment that gets chopped.

I tell the LAgos lad "Sorry, you'll get your $$ when I get paid".
I tell the Vlad my "agent" ran off with the money in my account, so looks like our transaction bounced.
The Vlad will not be kindly disposed toward my lad, if my lad makes subsequent contact trying to save the deal.
He may tell him to take a long walk off a short.... -OR-

He may want to cut a new deal with my lad, eliminating the middleman- If he does, how will my poor mugu come up with the $$ he supposedly stole? I guess he'll have to scam the Vlad...... Laughing

If the Lagos lad is one of the smarter lads, will he see he's been baited?
Are we educating the Lagos lad on how to find and then replicate Vlad "deals"?
Will this lead to eventual cooperation between the two?

It's a great idea, how do we make it work without backfiring? Confused

What about using lads to find the vlads by telling them we will give them a cut for cheap car auctions and whatnot... but then not using the same character to bait the vlad. In other words don't make any direct interaction between the lads and the vlads, just use the lads to find the vlads. Let them do the work for us, then use another baiter character to actually screw with 'em.

I agree, it would be great to get them at one another's throats, but I can't figure out how to do it without running the risk of a backfire.

Call me crazy but how do you keep your lagos lads from actually finding legit car dealers on ebay? I got a friend who has 3 used auto sites on ebay and is an honest dealer... How are they supposed to find the scams ? they could just as easily find you the deals your looking for ... so to speak

On ebay the scams are fairly easy to find just by looking at the titles. I never let the lads know what to look for. They need to find the cars the send me links before contact is made with the seller. Keeps the innocent safe.

Hmmm, maybe a West African modality is called for.....
I'm selling a shipment of cars to multiple buyers in West Africa, and I need a local agent to help with delivery, bribes, customs, etc.

The lad will be responsible for receiving the shipment; once it is clear, my buyers will contact him to arrange delivery.
The lad keeps x% of the sale price for his role.

Of course, there are always problems, and more problems- corrupt Customs officials, missing shipment, failed transactions, etc.
Just need to work out the part where the lads can see clearly where the whole deal is being held up (by the other lad, of course). Smile

Tin foil hat back on....more thinking to do..........

The crux here is getting lads motivated enough to pull this off. I agree with bearkat in that it would probably be best to use lads to sniff out the vlads and that is it. Keep it simple.

A nice website for our "company" would go a long way to giving us some credibility in the lads eyes.

I bet there is a gullible lad who shall remain unnamed that's on the run from a crime syndicate that could be convinced to front the money to one of the vlads Laughing

Is it cash baiting if we get a scammer to send money to another scammer? Shocked

Of course, he may not have any money after the disaster in Singapore Wink
