If I were you, I would drop the Hugh G. Rection persona. Not only is Viagra a hugely popular and famous drug worldwide (and therefore a highly transparant cover), but you are stealing the name of a highly-successful and much-beloved scambaiter on this site, Dr. Hugh G Rection.

It's one thing for me to bait as Jed Clampett, Ron Jeremy and Hannibal Lecter (I use all three, and they're certainly not original), but IMO the identity of Dr. Hugh G Rection should not be appropriated.

No replies since Monday! AHH! Actually I did get something yesterday, but it's from a mugu I lost interest in.

This thread has run long enough that I can't add anything substantive, but just in case someone is tallying up the votes I can report that my catcher account is nearly empty and my baits haven't been getting responses for a few days either. I guess I'm glad I'm not the only one who has noticed this, I had started wondering if I was too over the top in my replies. (I really don't think so, they've been pretty low-key.) Unless my mugus have been googling my lead character......

I think they've all been haunting the neighborhood television and watching the soccer tournaments.

Wow sudsman. Lighten up. Hugh G. Rection is old grade school stuff. It seems to be pretty worn out, but what it catches is worth a yuk.

Thanks frontline. When I get done answering these 30? emails I'll get back to it.

Biff? 100? How do you chose? I'm just answering them all to see what will work and then I'll take it from there. 100! I would probably quit.

Onward to the trenches.

I'm caught up. 27 in 24 hours. Unbelievable. How many of these people over there are doing this? Only one lottery winner out of all that. Maybe it was for real...............

Yeah, I'm aware of that, dude. I'm being overly dramatic. In case you haven't noticed, this site fairly drips with sarcasm. I'm not being a dick, really.

That being said, it would probably be a good idea to find another persona. JMHO.

It took a couple of days, but I got a response to the Lottery Scam I replied to. These guys must be pretty lazy... that or they're not real good when it comes to attachments (for which they will be mercilessly berated for sending -- don't they know ALL attachments are viruses?!?!)

Anyone know where I can track down a currency converter online? They wanted a paltry 850euros (of course the payout is only US$500K).

I know that I can make them do the math/conversion, but wanted to know what it really was before I started screwing with 'em.

I'm saving my messages for posting later. This is my first!! (Woohoo!)

Oh yeah.... the attachment they sent was a forwarded message with an rtf file attached to that message. The forwarded message had what appears to be the e-mail address of an innocent victim "LanaGay [at] aol [dot] com" is that anyone from around here? I've sent a friendly "please don't send these frauds money" message.

This might be too optimistic, but if autobaiting were becoming very successful, this is what the baiting situation would look like.

Lads will take progressively longer to answer all of the mails that they get back. Even if they increase their efficiency, they can not adapt to a 10 fold increase in replies. Their own mails will become more disjointed. They will make more mistakes. They will become increasingly vulnerable to tricks and frustration. Some will give up in mid-scam.

More fun for everyone! Less damage to the civilians.

I am getting the impression that once some of them twig you're a baiter, they bombard your account with scam invites, but don't reply to any, sort of a twist on Badger I guess, to waste our time. It doesn't really bother me as it's simple to spot, and I just find a new account, or send them back stupid replies when I'm bored

lagerdalek:
What are some of the characteristics of the mails you get when you are bombarded? What happens when you reply to them? Do all of the mails come at once?
I am really curious.

Buta,

They are normal scam mails, from various sources, some upper case, some lowercase, some mixed, some lottery wins, some Nigeria Petrolchemical, some longl ost cousin, a whole mix really. Usually 5-10 when I log on in the morning, and a couple more through the day. I'm assuming that email addy is on a scamspam mercilessly list. I started answering a few as baits, but got no reply, so I started just answering things like

'Sir, you are an arse'
'Wow! You have no idea how many lotteries i've won lately! I must get around to collecting some of the money!'
'I agree, all French people are bastards!' (to one bemoaining the French governent)
'Love your work'

etc etc

but still no reply Sad

I shan't take it personally, I'm getting a couple of regulars on my other accounts

I've got two baits running at the moment, one I've asked for some identification such as a photo of him at his work at the bank with a sign. One's Togo, the other is Benin.

But I haven't heard from either for five or six days. I was worried, but reading above I suppose this is just normal.

But I haven't had anything back in ten days from postings on about a dozen guestbooks either. And three addresses that I sent e-mails to without having received an initial e-mail from haven't answered in over a week.

But I haven't been around long, so maybe this is normal.

Yeah, something IS up. My current mugu even apologized in his last mail on saturday for not answering for two days - he said he was ill. He didn't answer since then either...

I think we involved the standard out of Nigeria mugu's in a trainwreck. Huge crackdown in Nigeria on 419 scams. Looks like governments are getting serious.
