Twisted Evil I have joined this sight after reading how helpful some people really want to be.

Just this week I almost fell victim to a car buying scam.

1965 Corvette for $4000.00 U.S.

Send money through Money Gram via Yahoo Finance (on-line auction division) which I now know does not exist.

To make this short everytthing looked authentic to me, sounded to good to be true, and it was. However some other poor guy will fall prey to this and that just is not good.

The e-mail to respond to for the car is [email protected] or [email protected]

I don't want anyone else to get caught, like I almost did and I am a fairly well educated person.

Go get em

And this is the car advert:

http://carsforsale.classifieds1000.com/listing/1965_Chevrolet_Corvette_for_only_4000_

Looks like a very busy lad if you Google either of the email addies, moved here from general chat.

This car is every where, so far we have seen it in texas, newyork and virginia.

the address that they give for texas is the la quinta hotel

Idea Try to arrange a meet for the car to pay cash in person this will end the conversation very quickly.

when I was first dealing I tried to get a phone number, but apparently she is almost deaf and e-mail is the best way to communicate.

Also ask her why so cheap, hold on for this one, her child was sick and needed the money in the next six days.

Was close but I did get out without any burns just a little smoke.

Mad I first found this add using this past Sundays Birmingham classifieds. The web site includes Greenville SC.
Just like redneckhound, but I went so far as to get my cash and go to the MoneyGram cash transfer site.
The lady said I needed a number from YAHOO Finance. a 4 digit number. Oh I tried to spend my money I said well go ahead and send my money to:
Ceddrick J. Bass
10525 Burbank Blvd
North Hollywood, ca 91601

This guy is supposed to be Yahoo Finance Center's Agent
So I called the operator and got 1-800-438 9246 in an attempt to get this 4 digit number. it just rang and rang and rang
I would think that Yahoo would shut them down Shocked Embarassed Embarassed Evil or Very Mad

If I don't see the title I don't send the money.

I told you that this are the steps of this transaction and Yahoo! Finance doesn't send the title before payment is valid !
Due to the many fraud with cars papers that I heard of, unfortunately I cannot send you the copy of the title but I assure you that the car is registered in TX. So, please understand my concern and I am looking forward to make the deal with you!
Please let me know what is your final decision because I have other buyers interested !
Thank you!!!

Car will be shipped to you and will arrive in 4 days from date we start shipping. The car will be delivered along with all the neccesary paperwork including title, original invoice, service records and manuals.
First you will receive a copy of the title from a Yahoo! Finance Agent.
If you'll decide to keep the car after the inspection periood ends ( remember that you'll have 2 days for inspection ) you will receive the original title and you'll do all the paperwork with the Agent.

Address traces to a storage facility in Canada.

Send me the address in Canada as that is where I reside and I will see if I can check it out for you.

[email protected]

When I received an address for Julia it was a hotel in Texas called La Quinta.

The Canadian address provided is an outdoor storage company, there is no such person as John Turnbull, the city is Richmond B.C. and the postal code provided V6V 1L6 is not correct either.

The phone number for that address is 604-790-1870. I called and John does not exist.

I run a fair sized newspaper classified site and it looks like this person is at it again.

They just put through 4 classified ad postings on our site - paid for probably with a stolen credit card (good thing we preauth and only complete when ads are approved so the poor theft victim won't be charged here).

Here's the ad copy:

Quote:
1972 Dodge Challenger $4800,coupe,great condition,low mi,automatic,8 cyl,ext:yellow,int:black.,[email protected]
or:514-448-9140 .

IP address of the user posting the ad: 172.132.111.177

Which resolves to an AOL account in the United States according to GeoIP

The 514 area code is in the Montreal area.

Not sure what can be done here, but at least there's a record somewhere if anyone ever does a search on that phone number, email or ad text.
