I really think I got burned. Never saw anything like this. There's a long forum debating whether it is legit, if you have time, start here:

Basically these guys seem to have set up a marathon web site (payment through Paypal, very unusual for marathons) with many red flags. If it's a scam, they need to be shut down. I am not in Indiana, so I don't have any local resources to investigate this better.
Their website in question is www.indyclassicmarathon.com. Apparently it was even more pathetic earlier, but it still has that stench of phony. I am inside the fishbowl, so I'm not seeing it clearly. Any comments will be appreciated. |

If this is a scam, it's a very good one. It does disconcert me that the privacy and terms of service pages are just stubs, but a quick Google search on "Indy Classic marathon" yields a lot of talk on forums, listings on marathon scheduling sites, etc etc. There's a permit application pending for it filed Dec 2006; a call to the Office of Finance and Management should confirm or deny whether the race is on. I would also call the contact numbers on the permit and confirm your registration personally.
Like I said, if the race itself isn't legit, it's the scam of the century and you won't have been the only one taken by it. My only concern is a spoof, and since I cannot find any other site purporting to be the official site for the ICM, I have to take it at face value. |

Thanks for looking. Finally there are some new contact numbers, which of course I did call. Looks like the race is legit, although the web site is, umm, lad bank-like...
Guess it is the eater in me, I was really doubting this one... |

Update: Still probably not a scam, but these lads screwed up big time and have had to postpone all the Sep 8 races until Nov 3. Very professional. Of course that screws people like me who already purchased airfare. I will be asking for a refund of my race fee - will let you know what happens... |
