Thanks remmy,
To my understanding atleast if you have not made initial contact (lad answering to you) i guess you don't even manage to waste even 1 minute of their time by reporting an e-mail acount. I assume that they expect that the account they used couple days a go to send 200-300 scam-mails is already closed when they come back with fresh lot of e-mail addresses. If you only close the mass-posting account, it that has nothing to do with account used for further discussion with possible victims that had already answered, and any disruption between communications of real victims that are "on the hook" and scammers is not going to happen ?? |

Judging from my one week experience shutting down phone-lads. They only shut down the sending account, even if you provide cast-iron proof that the other is involved. Of course, ISPs will vary, and if both are on the same provider it is more likely that both will get closed, but most lads don't do that. It's usually From: [email protected] and Reply-To: [email protected]. |

Hi Trainchatter!
The important thing to note here is that you were doing what you thought was the right thing. And you thought it was the right thing because everyone except us baiters told you it was! Since baiting (sadly) is not very well known in the world, and since service providers can be rather short-sighted in their solutions, shutting down a scammer's account is the only thing to do in the eyes of many people and organizations.
You're right: The information you get is conflicting, depending upon who provides it. Because this site permits free thought and expression (within legal limits of course), you'll even find conflicting information right here in the forums from time to time. With the exception of Shiver and Lotta (smooch smooch - can ya feel it?), nobody is right ALL the time! We just do what we can to help each other out.
We've all made honest mistakes, and some of us (like maybe me) still make them regularly! You had the account shut down with the best of intentions, so there's nothing for you to feel badly about. Your fellow baiters (if any were affected) will understand, and just find a new mugu to play with. With the number of reasons lads' accounts close, I just consider it an "occupational hazard" and move on.
Welcome to the Eater (we got fun and games)! |

from experience with dealing with phone lads, you can say you have been
trying his original account and they have been bouncing.
then ask him has he another account you can contact him on.
use that once then go back to the original but keeping note of the second.
this does come in usefull at times

Hello xxxxxxx
How are you and your daughter ?
I am still the james clerk that send message to you from [email protected] for puppy that is on assignment to Uk but reside in wisconsin that has a lovely wife and a kid. It's unfortunate i forgot the password and that is why i have to open another as [email protected]. Is all because i have your email address here on my wallet if not so we must have lost contact in the process.I have arranged for the check to be sent this week. Remember to remove $100 for Diana as agreed for her hospital bills and also try to resend the name and address to me now so that i can effect payment as soon as possible.
I have made arrangement for an excess payment and i do not won't to worry you because your daughter as in time to ship. So i have made arrangemet for the shipper to collect the excess fund on my check from you.
All you have to do is to remove the selling price as agreed, suitable kernel and also the feeding allowance, all neccessary injections like vacines deworming etc and send the rest to my shipper at wisconsin. Thanks

I am sad and thought this thread appropriate. I was using a modality on my lad where I haven't contacted him in 5 days, so I try contacting him today and get his email is shutdown. He has not emailed me with a new account and I now have lost him to the great wasteland of the internet
This was a ponzi lad too and I was hoping to get another website from him. |

@TrainChatter
guess you've been slapped enough on the killing a lads e-mail thingy. I agree with the others of course. Only with phonelads its a differnt thing, as they tend to seed they addies in the web which is time consuming for them.
On the phone-question, there are K2 and J2 who offer a free voicemail box for you. For J2 I have a linky: www.j2connect.com
Be aware of the pimp phones as well (mine u find in the siggy line and for the others there is a sticky somewhere ). |

Okay guys, this is probably my ;last post on this subject, but just wanted to say that the magazine/website where I placed my car for sale recommends the following
The met suggests that if you receive an email which you believe could relate to a scam, cause the sender some inconvenience by forwarding a copy of the email to the Internet Service Provider from where the email originated.
Now, clearly we are trying to do a little more here than "cause the sender some inconvenience", so we are moved on ahead of this, but, if this is the met advice, then maybe this isn't helping our cause?
Or maybe I'm just trying to justify my action
This also may explain another reason for seeing sites shutdown, if this is the general message that the public are getting (before they find this site that is)

I see where you are coming from TrainChatter. Before I came here I would have done the same. But sadly western LEOs know very little about how scammers work. This is mainly because these law enforcement agencies don't have the manpower and/or will to properly investigate how African based scammers operate, thus they don't really know how advance fee fraud works. A good example on how little some LEOs know about west african scammers can be seen on a youtube video of an American television report about scamming(can't remember the link, but a quick search could find it, it is mentioned in a thread somehwere here). In it an FBI rep said that he was amazed that the scammer agreed to meet someone after they sent him $200. Look over this website and see how many times we have gotten scammers to safari without paying them a penny to see how easy it really is.
As far as I know, the three best police forces for advance fee fraud advice are Spain, Belgium and Holland. This is mainly because in these are, or at one time were, hives of scammer activity. I have been told by a member of this forum that the latter two are willing to work with baiters, the arrest in my sig was achieved by forwarding information I collected to Dutch police through a member of this forum.

The met would also never advocate scambaiting or victim warning. So there. |
I agree that they wouldn't advocate baiting. However I think saying that they don't advocate victim warning is a bit much. They simply don't realise that they give bad advice. |
