...and the answer is: We haven�t found out yet, because everytime we think, they cannot go lower, they show us that they can.
Here is a small example from one of my current baits (a total straight bait till now):

I wrote to the lad:

This is just for our newer members to see how low they will go for the money. I know this has been demonstrated a lot of times, but I simply want to show the newer members, that a lad will do ANYTHING to get money from a victim. Just keep this in mind for the next ethics debate (and we all know it will happen) Evil or Very Mad

I read a few books by Johnny Rieger, a German homeless that extensively travelled the whole planet in the 1920ies and 30ies. In his short stories he shows us the dark back alleys of humanity *we* usually won't get to see. Tough reading but a real eye-opener and insight into what humans are capable of inserting into their day-to-day normality. In Hongkong for instance he worked for a shop that sold dead babies to beggars because a beggar with a dead baby would earn more than a beggar with just a leg cut off. So no matter how low you think something is, there will always be someone that digs a little deeper.

Not as bad as you, but I often "test" lads at the beginning of a bait by telling them that helping them will leave my elderly character very much in debt. Not one has had a problem with it.
Not my bait, but I have only ever seen _one_ lad sy something like "you need the money more than I do". And the impression I got from that one was that he wanted the baiter to get better so that he could get a bigger paycheck down the road; he said something along the lines of "contact me again when you are feeling better".

Then there is the "classic" it wasn't me received a few weeks ago. Her character could no longer prostitute herself for the money, because of horrible STDs and the like.

The scammer suggested she make her character's eight year-old daughter prostitute instead.

These are scum for whom I have no sympathy. Seriously.

I have wondered if there should be a "sticky thread" that just list the horror stories--from the bait to the reality of people who have lost literally everything, even their lives. People can submit their brief descriptions to a Mod/Admin for inclusion. No commentary will be necessary, just one story after another.

Then when someone "wonders" about the ethics of sending a lad on a safari that may--"OMFG!!11!!"--result in extreme anguish and discomfort--he may be sent to the sticky.

Am I alone in thinking that the Nigerian authorities must be giving tacit approval to these scams?, after all it is bringing in millions of � into the Nigerian economy.
How hard can it be to monitor their internet cafes? how many times do they arrest these scammers?. If they were serious they should have an undercover task force paying surprise visits & doing net research.
Like I say it stinks of tacit approval to me.

To save victims there should be a huge public awareness campaign with schools educating people at a young age, every person should be made aware, then hopefully these scammers would be out of a job.

I have said this a few times. There definitely should be a sticky, as there are several threads like breadcrumb's or stories scattered in other threads.
I don't think we need to make more work for the Mods though, unless we're baiting them Wink

Couldn't we be trusted to just post our stories in a single post with no comments? Maybe a disclaimer in the original post that says "no comments please, comments will be deleted". If one of our particular stories doesn't fit, it could be removed.

There was another 'how low can they go' thread recently. It inspired me to to reuse an old modality so I told my lad the only way I could get the money would be to steal it from my church's charity fund for sick children. He saw no problem with that and promised I'd be able to replace the stolen money with my "transfer." I told him that it was urgent it happen quickly because if I were to be caught I would be arrested, and if that happened I would kill myself because of the shame. No problem, he said. So I stole it, sent it, then got arrested before I could give him the MTCN. I had another character tell him about the arrest and how depressed I was in jail. Then I committed suicide and the friend sent a copy of the newspaper clipping to the lad.

Surprise! The lad is now trying to scam the friend who broke the bad news. He couldn't care less that he pushed me to steal the money knowing the consequences, and he doesn't give a flying bleep that I committed suicide. He's only unhappy about the lost MTCN and the money that's sitting somewhere in WU, unobtainable to him.

Newish here - been lurking for a while - and I've never felt any form of sympathy for these people. I cannot believe some of the things they'll say just to get the money. Unbelieveable.

Ha, as I typed that I just received an email from a scammer (which is unusual, I never get any) and she is posing as the widow of the former VP of Kenya. Rolling Eyes

I think there was another recent thread about 'feeling sorry' for these lads. I admit, when I first joined, I didnt mind the thought of playing games with these scammers, but it felt difficult for me to inflict some kind of *real* pain on them, be it financial, or emotional, or whatever. I think we naturally dont want to hurt anyone.

However, having read these posts and some of the threads in the various forums, as well as the experience I am gaining watching how my own lads operate, my feelings at attitude have changed and I no longer care what I do to them. I care less about them, and want to make life as difficult as possible for these scumbags, and I hope I can disrupt them enough that maybe one day it can prevent someone from becoming a true vic.

I agree with the other posters here about making a sticky on this subject for the newbies.

I sometimes give my bait characters a lot of personal trouble as well. All my straighter bait characters have some sort of personal tragedy or ailment. They are usually depressed and/or lonely. They even suffer personal tragedy and loss of family members.

I ran a bait to show my partner who was interested in seeing how low they could go. After awhile it got to the point where no matter what sort of desperate tragedy we added it was always about the money.

A real eye opener for people who don't know what we do or why.

It's disgusting to say that there is nothing they can do anymore that will surprise me (I better be careful 'cos whenever I have said that in the past, they always seem to find a way to sink even lower. Even when I beleive that it's impossible). I just received this form a mugu.

One of my characters was a 12 year old girl who was being sexually assaulted by her father. I told the lad that I was going to use my winnings to escape the house. He told me to steal the "documentation" money from my dad. I told him that if my dad discovered that I stole some of his money he would do worse things to me than he was already doing. The lad assured me that my winnings would get to me before my dad discovered the missing money.

It was a tasteless bait, and I felt really wrong doing it, but I wanted to see just how low a lad would go. Some questions are better left unanswered.

Nigeria is the 2nd most corrupt countiry in the world. However, there are people with power there who realise that with less scamming and conning Nigeria could be one of the richest countries in the world. This is not baseless hope, Nigeria really has the resources to become the next Dubai. Sadly most people(in general, not just Nigeria) don't want longterm promises, they want money here and now. The result is that quite a lot of the public do think scamming is a good thing. I have seen special reports where after police raid scammer net cafes they get pelted with rocks.

I was running a love bait as a recently orphaned 16 year old girl for months on end.

I had made plans to take a holiday to the Gambia where my 42 year old 'boyfriend' wanted to meet me.

It was all getting a little bit boring so I introduced a corrupt solicitor into the bait, who contacted the love scam laddie, and revealed that the young girl was due to inherit �4 Million when her father's will was untangled.

The love scam laddie had absolutely no hesitation in agreeing to kidnap the 16 year old, murder her, and dump her dead body in the desert, in exchange for �100k of her inheritance and a UK visa, whilst the corrupt solicitor stole the girls inheritance and kicked her disabled grandmother out on the street.

He even suggested that when he was he in UK, that he could do some silimar 'jobs' for me.

I recommend doing a search on "Lucifer Effect" to read up on why otherwise ordinary people wind up doing horrific things. This could help you understand the lads' motivation, which is not "lad hugging," but education to make you a more effective baiter.

Everyone is capable of doing horrible things, it merely takes the right motivation.
