I've had a few compensation scams come through to me before. It's just rather odd that this scammer would use this site to prove his point.

Unfortunately, it may convince a victim that "this guy HAS to be legitimate! Why else would he link such a site?"

However, I imagine more will see it is a scam and, hopefully, a such victim will search and discover the thread and information.

Somebody has just got to have edited his format.

DoctorX: I wouldn't worry about it making his scam look legitimate.
If a victim has never heard of the Eater and doesn't check up, it's going to make no difference - they probably would have fallen for it anyway. If they have heard of the Eater, they're more than likely going to know that this is a scam. And even if they have or haven't heard of the Eater but they click on the link and arrive here, they'll soon know it's a scam.

IMO, the lad couldn't have used a better link with which to screw up his scam.

I had that email too. Another one I had claimed that people really are recieving trunk boxes of money, but are claiming that they have been scammed just to keep it quiet & the money to themselves (as if!).

Assuming the victim has not heard of eater, they might just follow the link and say "Ooooh!! It IS a scam! I shouldn't reply!" or "Oooh!! That dirty twat! I'm going to bait him!" Very Happy

I think he was genuinely trying to find a way to make victims fall for it. He is linking a site about 419 scams so people will think it is legit and hoping that we don't find out. Or he may have just done a google search for anti-419 sites and found this one.

Someone sould make a frontpage warning about it, just in case.

It is not uncommon for recovery scams to site legitimate anti-419 sites. It obviously doesn't hinder them because they continue to do it, so what he links to this site, he has already brought the victims attention to the 419 scam anyway; his angle is recovery.

There is a chance a victim could then come here and gain insight into recovery scams but without any knowledge of what (s)he is looking for ((s)he is not aware that Recovery Scams exist) that is easier said than done. The victim could click on the link but they are not necessarily going to get what is going on here either by just quickly skimming through the home page.

It might be an idea to put a similiar warning on the homepage that the 419 Coalition put up on a page of their own that had been referenced by recovery scammers
