How seriously do lads take themselves?

A good deal of it may be just plain old ego. Scammers seem to take themselves seriously even when not in character, as many baiters posing as guymen and ogas can attest to. When not in character, it tends to be tinged with more bravado, and seems to be more of a pissing contest, but they still take themselves seriously.

This may be a cultural thing, too. I remember reading an article someone linked to here about Southern Nigerians being big on titles, to the point where they will title a profession as titles that wouldn't normally have one (as in Barrister Johns Philips, or Engineer Jeffries George).

Or they could just be overacting.
