...in settings, under the forward and pop tab, if i enabled the forward a copy of incoming mail to 'another address' and keep gmail's copy in the inbox, would the 'another address' also show up in the lad's email and/or headers as 'forwarded to"?
thanks, sybille

This is coming from someone who doesn't have much experience with Gmail but I do believe that your bait will be notified if it's been forwarded, and who it's been forwarded to. (although I get the feeling I'm confusing this with Carbon Copy, and my suggested solution would have been to blind copy instead.)

Just give it a try Very Happy I sent straight from Gmail so I never checked. Just forward from gmail through your yahoo account or whatever you would like to use and send to anoher email address. Then check the headers and see if it tells your scammer anything you do not want him to know.

I don't believe so. I have my regular email account with my ISP forward every email to gmail account as a backup (gmail is virtually unlimited space so excellent as a backup). When I look at my regular email online or when I 'download it' using thunderbird, it never shows that it was forwarded.

I think the only time it shows is if you reply from gmail addy (a) using addy (b) as the 'send from' address. Then it will show both in the headers. I don't think incoming will show as forwarded unless they are using something like readnotify
